Extreme Couponing - Overdramatized or Reality?
By frugalferret on December 06, 2011
By now you have all heard of or watched the TV reality show on TLC, Extreme Couponing. Like it, love it or hate all it represents - it shows a way to save money on the extreme.
People will see me out shopping and ask me "are you one of those extreme couponers?" I shake my head "no" as I smile and normally reply "no, I am an extreme saver" or "no, I am an extreme giver."
The reality is I don't use this method for my personal household shopping. I will price match my items at a store that has a generous price matching policy, toss in a few coupons and call it a day. Just by doing this alone I save well over 50% average anytime I shop. Fruit and vegetables are my biggest savings with price matching. (You can read this article here as one of many I have on my website, Saving Thru Price Matching.)
When I get great coupons that allow me the chance to "buy" items that are heavily discounted or better yet, FREE - I gather as many as I can and hit the stores. These items are normally our donation items and they include toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, shampoo, conditioner, razors, shaving cream, body wash, soap and miscellaeous OTC drugs. These are expensive items that I can get for FREE and donate to someone or to a cause.
If you have questions on how to save (whether a little or a lot), drop us an email. We love helping others save and we can get you on the right path.
