with apologies to CC Moore
Twas the week before Christmas and all through the ‘net
The only thing stirring was a Zhu Zhu pet.
Elisa and Erin just back from DC
Sharing BlogHer perspective on policy.
Bloggers continued to shop, just a bit less
And Rita invited us to share our mess.
Denise with her iPhone, me with Blackberry
Exchanged mutual wishes for a Christmas so merry.
Suddenly out on the web, a great cacophony
I wondered if Twitter had finally made money.
Away to a search engine my fingers did fly
To understand if, what, who and why.
Indeed yes it did but biz model’s still murky
All that noise was really for another turkey.
First Google was buying, and then it was not,
A company called Yelp that tracks what’s local and “hot.”
In the meantime that search engine called Bing
Worked hard at making cash registers ring.
And the Momspotters tweeted their digital lives
Waiting for the magic moment when Santa arrives.
@looneytunes, vodkamom, firemom, fiddledeedee,
bonggafinds, sarcasticmom, thatwoman and bossy
The rest of you, sorry - your handles don’t rhyme
and I need to get this post done on time.
Digital Parenting CEs Gina, Devra and me
write about digital kids and technology.
Sexting, texting, Nintendo, Mac and PC.
And sometimes we even write about Wii.
What will happen next year in the blogosphere?
I have some predictions, never you fear.
We already know changes on Facebook are near
But I’m fairly certain there’ll be no reindeer.
New guidelines for bloggers, says the FTC
You’ll have to disclose if you got it for free
And not just the bloggers, the companies too
Must be transparent or lawsuits ensue.
I guess I should have a prediction for Twitter
So I’ll say it finally lives up to its glitter
They’ll figure out how to make money and still
be true to their ethos, oh yes they will.
Old media like Murdoch on the other hand
seems destined to leave its head in the sand
We need a new model, it’s painfully clear,
or the daily newspaper will disappear.
And what of the future of film and tv
when more of us now watch on PC?
Will more programs emerge just for online?
I for one think that’d be perfectly fine.
This summer in New York we’ll all meet
To eat drink and blog, and yes we will tweet.
Our voices will rise from the city so strong
But come on, we’re BlogHers, we knew that all along.
What else will happen in the year that is new?
To be honest, my friends, I haven’t a clue.
I certainly hope I got at least one of them right.
Happy blogging to all and to all a good-night.
