I have a friend whose 17-year old daughter was assualted when she was 16 by a military man. She became pregnant and chose to have the baby. My friend is supporting her daughter as she finishes school and moves on with her life. They still live in the small (military) town where the assualt occurred, and where the perpetrator's wife and other children live.
In this community of "family values", they are frequently confronted by strangers about how irresponsible the girl was to have gotten pregnant. People ask her if at least she got married to the father because the baby deserves to have a Dad.
Even though the perpetrator (I refuse to call him a father) is in jail, there is still a chance she will have to give him visitation rights with the child once he is released! As a biological father in their "family values" county, he still has rights because he is the biological father and has maintained the assault was consensual.
And yet, my fellow rural Texans can't understand why I'm not voting with the "family value" party?
