Fashion Police Thanks Viola Davis For "Making The Sistahs Proud"
First off, I didn't see the Academy Awards in its entirety. Secondly, after hearing E's roundtable Fashion dish commenting on what & who the stars were wearing, I wasn't too enthused about sitting through another night of of Hollywood self-admiration, glitz and glamor.
Okay, love watching movies and celebrities who can step outside of themselves in making their characterizations believable; Johnny Depp, Al Pacino, Denzel Washington- Meryl Streep and Viola Davis-to name a few. So, this post is about Viola Davis's hair and other people perceptions...
Viola Davis has been a favorite actress of mine for a long time. I didn't exactly love her in The Help, but, it made her a frontrunner for the Academy Award, after winning previous awards for her performance. It's okay that she lost to Meryl Streep, a worthy opponent for sure. And, Viola, just so you know_ I never liked you wearing those hideous wigs- just saying. So, I, was thrilled to see you on the Red Carpet sporting your natural hair.
Not to get it twisted. I wasn't inspired to wear my hair natural from seeing Ms. Davis at the Academy Awards; I've worn natural hair for the last 3 decades! But, it seemed that Ms. Davis was to be commended by these fashion police for stepping out with natural hair and according to one of the hosts at this roundtable on fashion & fads, Viola Davis had made sistahs around the world proud!
Hmmm, I don't know how Ms. Davis is feeling about that statement, but, I found it a bit insulting! Loving the skin I'm in; Happily wearing my hair naturally nappy and not giving a hoot about making any other body proud; other than myself- that's the memo this police of fashion should have gotten.
I'm no role model for living my truth and hopefully, neither is Ms. Davis
