The Female Advantage: Join Me at WIE's September 20-21 Event in NYC (Special Offer for BlogHers!)

When the talented Dee Poku (@deepoku) called and invited me to moderate a panel at this year's WIE conference, I basically said, "Yes, what's the question?" On Sept. 20-21, Women: Inspiration & Enterprise (https://www.wienetwork.org) will host an incredible event, which she describes as "The Female Advantage, which is all about playing to your strengths and staying authentic."
After some of the frankly depressing news of the past week (I'm not trying to whine, but heaven help us with this story, this and this), nothing could be more important to me than being part of a solution -- and that's what WIE is doing, as Dee describes:
"Hear from some of the most dynamic leaders in business, fashion, philanthropy, politics and entertainment on topics such as Leveraging Your Personal Brand, The Spirit of Competition, Thinking Outside the Box, Tech: The New Frontier and Women Making the News. And partake in useful master-classes that range from Executive Presence and Media Training to Negotiation skills and Leveraging Your Network."
Why am I going? In addition to established leaders such as Norma Kamali (@normakamali) and Katie Couric (@katiecouric), I'm always interested in hearing women who specialize in entrepreneurship, such as Fast Company writer Anya Kamenetz (@anya1anya) and venture capitalist Aileen Lee (@aileenlee) plus a host of others. I also have the opportunity to moderate a panel of three rock stars (one literally!), including:
- Esperanza Spalding, Grammy Award-winning musician (jazz bassist, cellist and singer, see EsperanzaSpalding.com) and one of the youngest faculty members in the history of the incredible Berklee College of Music. @espespalding
- Ghislaine Maxwell, founder of the TerraMar Project to protect the oceans by empowering a global community of ocean citizens via the UN. @terramarproject
- Paul van Zyl is the co-founder and CEO of Maiyet. Prior to founding Maiyet, Paul was known for pioneering new approaches to human rights protection. @maiyet
Lastly, as a friend of WIE, Dee is allowing me to offer a ten percent discount for BlogHer friends and colleagues. You just need to use the code wie10nyc when purchasing on WIENetwork.org.
I'm also happy to report that WIE is looking for volunteers. Please email email@example.com for more information.
On behalf of Dee, myself and all the wonderful people working to create this WIE event, I hope you'll join us in NYC next week!
