Last night I couldn't sleep and followed the trail of links that Pistachio or rather PEAstachio left in a comment on the post about nonprofits and twitter. She also something very powerful, "Do Not Twitter Without Love." So, if you want to really understand and see the power of social media - authentic social media, go to PeaFund Friday.
I am watching my Twitter stream and seeing a sea of green and that is pretty amazing. This is authentic social media - people engaged in a conversation, friendships, creativity, and giving to a cause.
I've never met Susan Reynolds, but I am connected to some of her twitter friends and this authentic community support is very moving. I plan to donate next Friday, will you?

If Only...
While I understand the reasoning in this instance... Friday is the 2nd anniversary of my best friend's death. From colon cancer.
I've made a personal choice to support general cancer fund raisers, and not specific funds (like breast cancer). Especially considering colon cancer and lung cancer kill more women than breast cancer does.
If only the fundraising was for a more open cancer fund I'd happily turn green...

I love this use of Twitter
...which in the past I have dissed as "Fritter." Of all the reasons I've seen to join Twitter, this is the best thus far. I agree with you that this is a terrific use of social media -- a bandwagon for good. Amen! I put this post in our breaking news headline on the homepage.
Debra, if you start a thread on colon cancer, I'll donate to that too.

I like it too but
someday I'm going to recruit Lisa to the "darker side" of Twitter and she will become a fan... ok, so it's not a darker side, it's the COMMUNITY side of Twitter. ;-)

As a Twitter Addict...
...AND friend of Susan Reynolds I have to say watching this Pea Fund unfold was amazing.
The Pea Fund is being routed to the American Cancer Society, so I do believe your donations will support research for all.

Ok, Erin...
That tidbit woud change my mind except the funds are being routed to the ACS program on Breast Cancer (Making Strides). Still not general cancer research. Still pitting one kind against the rest.

Taking a look now...
...yes, I see that it goes to a specific *part* of the ACS. Hmmm.
Hearts are in the right place though!
