With just seven weeks until BlogHer Food '13 messes with Texas, the excitement is growing with each and every conference announcement! Your BlogHer Food '13 speakers are almost all up on the site (and are being added to our Pinterest boards and Twitter lists daily), the excursions for Friday and Saturday are rolling out (from taco trucks to bat spotting!), and today we'd like to unveil the first of this year's keynote presentations.
Our first round of keynotes will span the early days of food blogging and carry right on through the future of America's food crisis. We are honored to announce the following keynote presentations, which each bring a little something different, but equally important, to the community table:
David Leite founded Leite's Culinara in 1999, which pretty much makes him the Godfather of food bloggers. The extraordinary evolution of his online presence, his business philosophy, and his scrumptious recipes is as inspiring as it is important to hear. A serial James Beard Award winner, book publisher, writer, recipe creator, and all around good guy, David Leite is one of the most fascinating and exciting voices in food blogging today. We are thrilled to welcome him to the stage for an Innovator Interview during BlogHer Food '13.
- What do childhood obesity and food insecurity have in common?America, that's what. As of 2010, nearly 1/3 of all US children under the age of 18 were obese*, while at the same time 20% or more of the child population in 36 states and D.C. lived in food insecure households*. Anna Lappe from Small Planet Institute, Elly Spinweber from Partnership for a Healthier America, Councilwoman and Activist Lea Webb, and Michelle Berger Marshall from Feeding America will join us at BlogHer Food '13 for a keynote conversation exploring how these two issues are -- how they can possibly be -- connected, where the solutions to both may be, and how we as bloggers can help change the future of America's vulnerable youth.
We can't wait to share these outstanding speakers and food community members with you. We'll be announcing the final keynote speakers for BlogHer Food '13 in the coming weeks, so be sure to subscribe to our post feed here, and register before BlogHer Food in Austin sells out!
