Whether you’re shopping for friends or family looking to tee up, hit a home run or just sit back and enjoy a game in front of the TV, here are some (hopefully) fresh suggestions for your favorite sports fanatic.

These gifts are great for all ages and indulge the mind, body and soul. While golf clubs, team jerseys or beer steins may have been suitable gifts in years past, why not kick things up a notch in 2011 with some unique gear and games?

1) MiSoccer Speakers

MiSoccer is both a speaker and a docking station for the iPod, and comes with a handy remote. The ball shaped speakers are positioned for maximum sound distribution.

MiSoccer is available in three colors from Speakal for $99.99

2) 3-D Sports

The editors of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED Kids have compiled the world's best sports photography in eye-popping In Your Face 3D to pull readers right into the action.  With the enclosed 3D glasses, viewers will feel  like they're grabbing rebounds with NBA stars, reeling in a big catch with pro fishermen, and riding high on big waves. This 80-page book showcases the 3D images taken by veteran SI photographer David E. Klutho.

3) Active Tunes

There are a handful of great headphones for active users. I personally love the Skull Candy Dream Team Athletic Collection but the pricier Powerbeats by Dr. Dre are also a popular choice for athetes, Another choice is Koss  Stereophones that clip comfortably over the ear. The pivoting cans provide a adjustable fit and foam ear cushions provide comfort. They’re big, and they pack a punch both visually and aurally.

4) Sport Beans

A great stocking stuffer, Jelly Belly's Fruit Punch Sports Beans contain vitamins B and C with electrolytes, which are great for giving any sports junkie that extra bounce. Plus, they taste yummy too. $29.95 for 24 one-ounce bags, jellybelly.com

5% of the sales (up to $40,000) of Fruit Punch Sport Beans Energizing Jelly Beans goes to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.

5) Video Games & Accessories

Bringing entertainment and games to life while promoting healthy physical activity, both Kinect and Wii are ideal for sporty kids (and adults). Assuming you already have one of the devices, here are some accessories to check out.

-Wii Fitness Bundles

If it's too cold to get to the gym, sporty pals will love the Nintendo Wii 5-in-1 Fitness Bundle. The pack of essential items includes a Fitness Mat which can also be used for Yoga and Pilates, a custom fitted Travel Bag for optimal portability, non-slip socks and a Neo Fit soft protective cover to keep the board in mint condition.dreamgear.net

-Wii NERFSports Pack

Help any video-game lover hit one out of the park with the Nintendo Wii NERF Sports Pack, which comes with accessories for baseball, golf, and tennis games $19.95 pdp.com

Cleats, sticks, balls, racquets, etc. along with licensed/logo merchandise are usually well-received so hard to go wrong with any of those as gifts. For techies, a Garmin or other GPS-based training/tracking device is also generally a hit. A series of sessions with a personal trainer or sports psychologist or a gift card for a therapeutic massage are welcome gifts for a lot of serious athletes. Maybe should have titled the post Super Gifts for Sports Fans and written a separate post for the hard-core athlete. Hopefully there were a couple useable suggestions. Any other ideas?

My kids get cleats, soccer & football, not in the holiday season. Usually before practices start. Feet grow so quickly it can't be any other way.
I AM going to be looking for the pink cleats my son wants for October- Breast Cancer Awareness month for next season, in honor of his Grandma, a BC survivor.

My son and husband looove football, so hoodies and blankets of their favorite college & NFL teams are much loved and used.

i would think a real athlete would prefer something like new cleats or other quality sport equipment to a sport-themed non-sport item.
