Five Reasons Why Spending New Year's At Home Rocks!
So did you go out last night?
Did you have a big night out on the town?
Did you wear a fancy dress and sparkly shoes?
Every year right after Christmas and right before New Year, we have the discussion and it goes a little something like this:
Me: "So what do you wanna do for New Year?"
Husband: "I dunno. What do you wanna do this year?"
Me: "I dunno. It's cold."
The concept of going out on New Year's Eve and counting down to midnight amongst other drunkards and buckets of confetti seems very glamorous and very exciting. I know for me, when I don't have grand plans, which is just about every year, I automatically think maybe I'm just not one of the cool kids.
But then there is this other part of me that gets giddy that we don't have plans. I get secretly excited to stay home. In fact, I think spending New Year's at home rocks! Allow me to give you five reasons why:
1.) You get to spend New Year's Eve with your kids! Kids are more excited about staying up for New Year's than adults! If your kids stay up like mine do (and they all made it to midnight because they're part Momma), watching the excitement in their face as we begin the countdown from 10...9...8... is like no other. As a matter of fact, it's better than buckets of confetti amongst a bunch of drunkards. They are excited to stay up, too! They see horns and hats and streamers, which must mean fun is about to commence. And that's all you need to make a kid happy.
2.) You don't have to find a sitter. Do I really need to explain why this is a burden so very unmissed? Who doesn't have plans on New Year's Eve? I mean, besides us.
3.) You're safe at home. When I even entertain the prospect of possibly making a night of it and venturing out on New Year's Eve, I immediately follow said prospect with a question: Do we have to drive anywhere? It's a very dangerous night to be out on the road. But if you stay in, you don't have to drive anywhere!
4.) You get to drink wine! Or any other adult beverage of your liking. And you get to drink it without the worry that maybe you'll have to drive, or call a cab, or get sloppy and messy in front of strangers and turn into one of those drunkards. You get to do that in the comfort of your own home for all your family to see! Bad example? Debatable. Sure, you can drink wine while you're out on the town in your sparkly shoes. But it costs more and you have the pesky task of getting home safely.
5.) It's nice and warm at home. I live in Arizona. It's mostly warm hotter than hell here. So my disclaimer is that I'm a big baby when it comes to the cold. That being said, it does get cold here. Like in the 30's cold. Momma doesn't like to go out in sparkly shoes when it's cold. I'll drink my New Year's champagne in my toasty living room, thank you very much.
So if you think you're a looser or you're boring for not going out in your fancy dress to dance on tables amongst drunkards and buckets of confetti, I'm here to say you're not!
Last night we stayed in and rang in the New Year as a family. I was safe and warm, I had my family and kids with me, my husband, and my wine. It was one of the best New Years Eve celebrations I've ever had.
And we are the cool kids!
Happy New Year!
