If you are a decorating blog junkie, an HGTV junkie or even just a... junk junkie, you know that paint is an affordable way to transform even the humblest rooms, furnishings and accessories. Maybe you've painted your walls, furniture or a picture frame or two. Even if you're a seasoned painter with a closet full of paint-splattered clothes and a spray-paint-trigger-finger-injury to prove it, here are five things that you may not have thought about painting:

1. Your Blinds:

Blogger Stef of Frugal Home Ideas boldly went where no painter had gone before and transformed her outdated, almond-colored blinds using espresso spray paint. She hung the blinds from a swing set outside to do the painting! Bravo!

2. Your Floor Vents:

The super creative and ever clever Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick used spray paint to transform ivory floor vents into something altogether more current!

3. Glass Bottles:

Glass bottles take well to spray paint, as evidenced by these Starbucks-Frappucino-bottles-turned-vases from Maize Hutton. Her instructions can be found here.

4. Your Stairs:

When the wall-to-wall carpeting on our stairs waved the white flag, we pulled it up and painted our stairs with oil-based paint. You can read all about it in my earlier blog post here.

5. Your Doorknobs:

Armed with spray paint, Beckie of Infarrantly Creative banished her shiny brass doorknobs. She shares step-by-step instructions here.

I just love watching and reading about DIYs and paint is one of my favorite things, it will transform simple or old things into fabulous ones in no time.

Great ideas, thanks for sharing! Paint has always been a comfort zone for me. It's affordable, easy to use and can give new life to just about anything!

I have painted starbucks bottles before. I used glass paints though, and then I used gallery glass paints for other ideas, like one wine bottle has a fairy on it, a starbucks bottle has a tower with Rapunzel's hair flowing down from it, that one was a template from a Faries book I have. I tried to sell the art bottles I created at a festival recently, but it didn't go well, didn't sell one. I still want to put them up on my Etsy shop but I don't have a digital camera to do it with.
I worked with a spray paint called make it stone, really cool stuff, used it on some clay projects but you can put it on anything to get a stone look to it, it comes in different colors but I bought mine plain whitish grey so I can paint using my own colors.

This is something I am finally ready to try. I have seen such great things that people have painted and distressed.

I found some old old drawers from an ancient workbench. the drawers are made with dividers and look very primitive. They need to be cleaned..and thennnnnnnn.....
The paint!!!!

I am not quite sure how to go about it..but I want them to end up a distressed or antiquie white....They could be used as shelves...they are so neat. Any tips?

I love exploring my creative side, and I will randomly paint just for the fun of it. I really enjoyed this piece.

Fan Blades! I painted my kitchen ceiling fan housing and blades, my antique mini desk fan blades and housing - left the grill chrome - to match my kitchen. If you use regular brush on paint, I recommend a dense foam roller for the smoothest coat.
I also painted the trim on the recessed can lights to match. I've painted my refrigerator and dishwasher door as well. Gloss oil-based Porch and Floor paint works fantastic on metal, as does the Krylon X-Metal transparent "skateboarder" type spray paint.

Around the house I'm always telling myself, 'I should paint that!'

I really like your easy and simple ideas! I can't wait to try out some of them!
Thanks!

Paint is, relatively, inexpensive. At least as far as renos and decorating goes. You don't like it on the walls, you paint over it. If you aren't sure something can be painted don't worry about it, the internet knows. Paint on furniture can be painted over or stripped. Again, you don't like it you do it again. Paint something!

When I was young and poor, paint was my big secret for coordinating all my mismatched furnishings.

The floor vent trick is an especially good one. I've spray-painted all my 1930s vents a neutral black and it made such a big difference.

I wish we could do some of these for our apartment, especially the blinds, but we have nowhere to paint!

I am such a fan of paint that we have framed paint samples decorating one bathroom.

I can second the old frappuccino bottles. We also decoupage them.

I adore HGTV and the like. I don't confess to be creative, but I love watching how to do things.

That said, I CANNOT PAINT ANYTHING. I don't know what can and cannot be painted. I don't know how it will turn out. I don't want to ruin what we have. OMG! PAINTING ANXIETY!

But these are LOVELY projects. LOVELY.
