Five Things You Can Do Right Now To Curb Those Sugar Cravings

We all have them--those sugar cravings that make us keep running out mid-morning or afternoon for coffee or tea--and our fix.  Or we have two or three sets of those in different sizes to accommodate weight fluctuations.

And you know what?  Those sugar addictions might also be costing you in your career, because you might get a sugar rush at first, but soon you'll experience the crash and be tired, irritable, moody, unfocused.  In fact, I used to work with someone who would come back from lunch sleepy and irritable.(The place she always went to had these killer red velvet cupcakes)  First, she'd put her head on the desk and snooze a little--them wake up to shout at co-workers, clients and, eventually, the company CEO (Needless to say, that last one cost her the job.)

Here's the good news, though.  You can kick them to the curb.  In fact, that's one of my signature classes--"Kicking Those Sugar Cravings to the Curb."  It's a 3-step system where I teach you all about your cravings, what they're trying to tell you about your body, the eight causes of cravings and more.

There are some things you can do right now to tame that sugar monster.  They are:

1, Drink Water.  Cravings for sweets can be a sign of dehydration.
2. Chew thoroughly! Saliva often breaks down food into simple sugars, giving it a sweet taste
3. Reduce or eliminate caffeine: The ups and downs of caffeine dehydration and blood sugar swings cause sugar cravings to be more frequent.
4. Get physically active:  Helps balance blood sugar levels, boost energy and reduce tension.
5. Experiment with spices.  Coriander, nutmeg, cloves and cardamom are naturally sweet.
 
By the way, here's one of my sugar story secrets:  When I was in nutrition school, there was a Whole Foods Store nearby.  I got a massive sugar craving and went to the store to buy a chocolate bar.  Who did I run into?  Some of my colleagues--and I didn't want them to see what I was doing so I hid the chocolate bar behind my back!
