A couple years ago, I read a touching novel, Firefly Lane, by Kristen Hannah. To say it was touching doesn't do the book justice. Hannah's style of writing is so mesmerizing and yet so easy to follow along... I couldn't put the book down. It was fun and happy, yet sad and sentimental....more
A few summers ago, I read Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah and immediately fell in love with the characters, their friendship, their stories, and their heartache. I just felt connected to them. They reminded me of my mom and her best friends and of me and my best friends. These generations of women who lived life together and know each other's secrets and hurts and sickness and health and love. These friendships that are like a sisterhood. When the book Fly Away came out as a sequel to Firefly Lane (now in paperback), I was so excited to read it to follow up with Tully and Kate and Marah....more
Fly Away is the story of three women who have lost their way and need each other—plus a miracle—to transform their lives. “An emotionally-complex, heart wrenching novel about love, family, motherhood, loss, and redemption, Fly Away reminds us that where there is life, there is hope and where there is love, there is forgiveness....more

There are very few things in life that can withstand the test of time like the bonds of a true friendship. Casual friends come and go with the ebb and flow of life but a true friendship is different. A true friendship is elastic--it can stretch without snapping. I was lucky enough to find such a friendship early in life when I became one side of a best friend triangle....more
When BlogHer approached me about reviewing Fly Away, the latest novel from best-selling author Kristin Hannah, I was intrigued by the novel's central theme of three women who had lost their way. So many of my interviewees have described a feeling of being lost when their marriage ended, of not knowing who they were, of walking in the shadow of who they used to be....more
Firefly Lane has been on my list of great books to read for a few years now, and when I finally read it, it did not disappoint. I would define Firefly Lane as the perfect beach read--It follows two women, Tully and Kate, from the time that they become best friends as children and onward throughout their lives together. It is raw, real, and heartfelt, and a very enjoyable read that provides an escape from reality and doesn't take a whole lot of mental effort. Sometimes, these kinds of books are exactly what I need....more
I don't read fiction much these days. I remember why now. A really great novel can drive you mad with anticipation. It causes you to stay up way too late night after night. It consumes your thoughts. Fly Away by Kristin Hannah was one of those novels for me. Although I cried my way through the first three chapters of this book (at least), I found myself thinking about the characters in the shower and plotting in the school pick-up line the next time I'd be able to pick back up where I left off....more
I am 8 months into motherhood and I could list 100 things that have changed since becoming a mom. One of the biggest changes I've felt since Ford came into my life is purely emotional. The second I met my son my heart swelled and I learned that my capacity to love is so much greater than I could have ever expected. People jokingly talk about "mama bear" instincts but they totally ring true when you have a little cub to care for. Life has become so much more precious....more
