"Focus on the positve and the rest will fall away from lack of interest."

(Happy Musings is a newspaper feature syndicated by King Features that I create each day to remind us all that “Life is wonderful!”  I offer it here to brighten your day.  Please share it with your friends.)  HMT20061130

Energy is energy.  Might as well make it positive!  I’ve never seen something disappear so fast as when you don’t think about it.  So many times people work very hard trying to get something or even someone that affects them negatively out of their life, when all they have to do is focus elsewhere.   It is like chewing on something that tastes bad.  The taste lingers.  Eat something else.

There are many in the psychology field who insist on working through things.  “You have issues.”  I say, give up issues.  Let them go.  Do something else.  Analysis paralysis can set in and there one sits.  The mind can be a maze of endless turns with personality pitfalls, but the heart is ever-forgiving.  It is not interested in the “hows” and “whys”.  It’s interested in the “nows” and “sighs” of something better.

When I taught tennis it was interesting to see this phenomenon of focus in regard to changing a student’s motion.  Of course many times people would come to me with very unorthodox and cumbersome strokes.  Now to change these strokes to something more effective seemed daunting to them.  But the truth is I wasn’t interested in changing what they had already learned, only to do something else.  It made it so much easier if we didn’t have to alter what they were doing, but learn something new.  That new motion simply replaced the old one without a struggle.

My husband does this trick when he is with his 96-year-old mother.  When she gets on a negative jag he just changes the subject.  Otherwise it would be an endless dialog of rationalizations for her point of view that never gets anywhere or does anyone any good.  Good is what we’re after and it’s easier had by being positive!

Smiles,

Sally

Thanks, Mara.

Just a thought or two here for what you are trying to do -- lose weight.  I've helped several people with this kind of situation.  Firstly, all of these kinds of situations -- overweight, underweight, smoking, drinking, drugs, etc. --  do not take into account the fact that we live in a body, but are not the body.  This identification with the body leads to all kinds of distortions.  You, as spirit, just use the body as a vehicle to get around, to create and accomplish wonderful things.  Now, if you are very strong and clear and state to yourself:  I WILL TO DO GOOD!  Your choices become simple.  There are no more tug-a-wars with what to eat or what not to.  You know what is good.  Do it!  And, every time you make a "good" choice you get stronger.  The body has the consciousness of a dog.  You wouldn't give your dog unhealthy or too much food when its little emotional system gets upset.  So don't do it to yourself.

Keep in mind that we walk around in the past -- that is our past thinking.  What we will be like in the future has to do with our thinking now.  Get a really good picture of yourself in your mind of your perfect weight, with a big smile, and fix it.  Don't change that picture by what you see in the mirror.  You won't even have to weigh yourself or measure yourself.  Just hold the picture in your mind and that's it!  That and the will to do good will make it happen and happen easily.

I'm sure this is more than you would ask for, but I do not like to see people struggle when they don't have to.  Send me a picture or put one up in a month.

Smiles,

Sally

I agree Sally.  Being negative only brings negative thinking and feelings.  I believe you can start each day with a positive thought and you are the person who can make the only difference of how it goes.  Nice topic
