New Searchable Database for Peanut Recall

As you have heard me talk about in earlier posts, peanut butter and peanut paste produced by the Peanut Corp. of America (PCA) has been linked to an outbreak of illnesses caused by Salmonella Typhimurium. ...more

Newlywed Chef Wars

One thing I've learned after my first year of marriage is that I don't really like to cook. I L-O-V-E to bake...Cookies, challah (bread), cupcakes, muffins...You name it. (I don't want to brag or anything, but I'm a pretty darn good baker!) Any way, I'm not so much in love with "cooking," as in making delicious gourmet meals. If it has more than five ingredients in it, or it takes longer than say 10 minutes to make, I don't want to mess around with it. ...more

Confessions of a yogurt addict

I was busily working this evening, actually driving the forklift when I looked up and saw the co-manager of the store waving me down. Now I suppose if you don't drive a forklift you don't realize it doesn't turn on a dime, and he certainly didn't. By the time you reach co-manager of a store especially Walmart, you haven't driven a forklift or any of the equipment for quite a while. ...more

Agave Nectar is Gaining a Lot of Fans; Have You Tried It Yet?

Even if you're not trying to watch your sugar intake, you've probably heard about agave nectar, also called agave syrup, a product that's now so mainstream you can find it in grocery stores. Since then the popularity of agave has continued to rise. What is agave nectar and why are so many health-conscious cooks using it? ...more

Haven't tried that, but I bet it's good.

Fun Fact Friday - BACON, BACON, BAAAACON!!!!

Today's fun fact is about one of my favorite foods, bacon. Did you know that bacon is one of the oldest meats in history? That's right! The Chinese were preserving and salting pork bellies around 1500 B.C. Bacon is awesome and I wasn't all that surprised to find out it's been around for such a long time. Given the chance I could easily eat multiple strips of bacon at every meal. That is, if it didn't result in me weighing 1,000 lbs and having a heart attack by the age of 35. ...more

weight loss lies: I lie to myself about food

Image credit: www.freespirit.com I have to admit it.  I lie about food.  No, I don't lie to you, or my wife, or my family about food.  I lie to myself about food.  I walk by my pantry and grab a small handful of my wife's sp ...more

Top Chef Not So Tops

If you'd asked me a few years ago if I watched any kind of reality show, I'd have given you ten minutes of railing about the unreality of reality TV and asked why you wasted your time on that nonsense.  The only show of that kind that I truly enjoyed was the very first season of The Real World on MTV.  But by the third season, I was pretty tired of the formula. ...more
