How I went internet free on my vacation...and it didn't cost me a thing

A few months ago when I sat down to plan my vacation to Florida the main things I was concerned about were the flights (being at times that worked for me and were not expensive), the hotel (to be safe and not far from where my friend lived), and saving money towards all the extra things ie. eating out and activities. Never once on my list of things to think about was anything to do with how many blog posts I'd miss out on reading right away, what Facebook status updates I'd be too busy to comment on, or what tweets I should send to let everyone know what I was up to....more

Mama's Last Week in Review - Letter J

Last week seems like a blur to me, so I'm thankful I had the foresight to scribble notes about what we did! We concentrated on the letter J and David bringing the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem. The boys learned a new song, "I've got the Joy down in my heart" and Sweet Pea took to it pretty quickly. We also visited a couple more preschools, one visit inspiring an experiment at home!...more

Step kids can say things like “You can’t tell me what to do” “You’re not my mom” and “I don’t have to listen to you”. When you try to tell other people’s kids what to do, they get offensive. How to Make Turkey Gravy: Recipe & Troubleshooting

While the Thanksgiving feast is often filled with potential pitfalls, from overcooked turkey to lumpy mashed potatoes, nothing seems to cause more angst than making gravy. If done well, turkey gravy can be the star of the show, enveloping everything on the plate in a rich, savory blanket. If you are like my brother-in-law, gravy is by far the most important part of the meal, prompting your relatives to buy you a gravy thermos so that you can have your own personal supply of the thick sauce sitting beside your placemat. Everyone deserves to be indulged once in a while. ...more
