Pumpkin Spice Latte & Frugalista Chic

Ahh... the holidays are upon us... Images of sugar plums dancing in our heads while dreaming if Santa Claus will be providing us with treats (or a big fat lump of coal) under our Christmas trees. Who am I kidding?! That is what I want.. those images on the books I read to my son at bedtime. ...more

I love the holiday drinks. I splurge on Starbucks too. That is actually one of my favorite ...more

The kitchen in the center of this old house

I’m still unpacking in this new-to-me-hundred-year-old house in the redwoods.  Every now and then I climb onto a stool in the very large kitchen, stir some cream into my coffee, and count my blessings.  I’ve had galley kitchens, Pullman kitchens and whatever other glorified descriptions we use for “too small.”  One of my favorite memories is of my  first kitchen as a family lady.  It was a big, square room in a very small house.    ...more

Weekend Menu Planning: Homemade Dinner Rolls to Try Out Before Thanksgiving

When I was a kid, my mom was famous for her homemade bread, rolls, and cinnamon rolls. I saw the movie yesterday afternoon in Salt Lake City with a bunch of local food bloggers, in an audience that included many women from the era of Julia Child's TV show. There was laughter during the show, and applause when it ended, and as we walked out of the movie, our food blogger crowd was in complete agreement about one thing: we loved Meryl Streep as Julia Child. ...more

I think most everyone agrees that Julia and not Julie is the highlight of the movie.  As ...more

Tupperware Love Affair

The dog ate my favorite Tupperware bowl.  Several times a week I reached for it - the biggest one Tupperware made - but it wasn’t there anymore and it hadn’t been there for years.  I had a sense memory of it and kept reaching for an imaginary replacement.  That bowl could do everything. ...more

Thanks for checking in. I'm glad Tupperware is still around - don't know what I'd do without my ...more
