Food Safety
by Michellesamom

I know that this issue is on the
minds of parents. Where do the candidates stand? The Public Service
Alliance of Canada issued a press release today with several recommendations. Harper has really dropped the ball on this one. The release states that Harper has "steadily cut funding for food safety programs and shifted responsibility for safety assurance to the food companies themselves"

(not the first time I've heard this). Do we really expect food
companies to police themselves? Yes, it is in their best interest to
produce quality food for their consumers, but in the quest for an
ever-increasing profit margin the ball gets dropped. That's when I
expect my government to look out for me. The cite also quotes a "secret government document" that suggests it will only get worse if Harper is elected. And yet, The Star reports that Harper's lead is strengthening! A scary thought.

I would like to hear what the other candidates think about these recommendations, and what they plan to do.

I
really hope that some of these issues come out in the debates... and
that people watch. I know the VP debates in the US will be interesting,
but this is so important for Canadians!

PhD, I'm flattered. Did you also see the recent CBC article on the outbreak? Scary stuff:
