What was a shanty a few weeks ago is turning into a pretty good fort. My oldest son started it but needed help to reinvent it. We dismantled the first and second attempt and started over.

I’m a fort builder from way back. I had them all: a grass hut in the bushes, a tree platform for swinging off of, the average shanty that was by far my favorite with it’s sloped roof and broken concrete pathway, but the most memorable was the time I decided to really expand my fort building abilities.

Picture my parents face when they came home after 12 long hours at work to see the monolith I erected in their absence. It was two stories and built from every piece of scrap wood, doors, screens, carpet and anything else I could find. But the “piece du resistance” (say it with a french accent, it sounds better) was the fact that I built it right off the side of our house. I heard their car and came running from the backyard, I could see the red of my dad’s ears from the bottom of the driveway. Yes, it was dismantled right away!

I would love to do that with my son.  When I was young I was never allowed to do stuff like that since my parents were education freaks and all I was allowed to do was school work.  Looks like a load of fun and very creative.

I am so swamped with work but if someone will remind me next week, I will blog fort stories. I have some good ones.

Thanks for coming back and sharing your photos.
