Not so handicap accessible

Diannebug  It's almost been an entire year since I broke my leg in such a grandiose way. Looking back over this past year, i can honestly tell you that many/most places that are so-called "handicap accessible" are full of excrement....more

Rick Hansen Global Accessibility Map

October 12th, 2011 marks an important day for people with disabilities, caregivers, seniors, and parents with strollers.  On this day the Rick Hansen Foundation launched the Rick Hansen Global Accessibility Map.  This is a moment that for myself I welcome, applaud and mourn.    The Map is an online tool that will raise awareness and essentially join people around the world in the common goal to make our p...more

If you are doing anything that makes your blog inaccessible, don't feel that I'm nagging against you personally.I am an avid blogger. I use WordPess for my own blog, which is generally quite accessible using my screen reader. Blogger is a lot less accessible, but I'll get to that later....more

BlogHer 2008: Accessibility of Westin St. Francis

For over a year now, I have been traveling and going to professional conferences as a person with a disability, a wheelchair and crutches user. Abilities and disabilities vary wildly. My own issues are most often bathrooms, distances, exhaustion, and stairs. I am less aware of issues and solutions for people with visual impairments and for the deaf or hearing impaired community; I apologize for not addressing those issues here. If you have mobility issues and wonder about the accessible geography of the conference, I have a ton of information! ...more

Bloggers discuss Captcha, petition Yahoo! for Better Solution

One solution to this issue has been Captcha, which is one method for figuring out if a creator of an account is really human. But, the captchas actually lock out the visually impaired if not designed correctly. Apetitionhas been started to ask Yahoo! to make their site, and captchas, accessible to the visually impaired.I discuss this issue more at my blog. ...more
