We've all heard the saying "milk does a body good" but would you believe me if I told you that almond milk could even better than the diary kind? If you haven't enjoyed a refreshing glass, you're really missing out. The basic blend is made from finely ground almonds mixed with water. It's not hard to find, most super markets carry a healthy variety. Before you turn up your nose at the thought, read on and see if you don’t see a few good reasons to give it a try....more

Blueberry Mint Almond Milk Smoothie

Vacation is over, wheat is in the garbage, and fruits and veggies are in abundance.  And you know what that means...... my favourite time of year is here!!! Smoothie time! My motto, a smoothie a day keeps the waist away. ™....kidding. I wish. Not on the motto, on the ™ - I wish I had a ™ on that. Did I just make that more confusing? This smoothie = easy peasy.  Not like smoothies are ever hard. ...more

Hemp Milk vs. Almond Milk: The Milk Alternatives

The other week I had posted 6 Reasons to Rethink Cow's Milk and giving you some reasons as to why I am eliminating it from Austyn's and mine's diet all together, with the hopes of perusing the rest of the fam-bam to follow suit. Egg and Dairy Free Pancakes

I was reading an article about flaxseed and it's wonderful health properties. I was convinced, so I decided to pick some up at the store to add to smoothies. As I was wandering the aisles, I found a bag of ground flaxseed made by Bob's Red Mill. I read the package and lucky me, there was a tip on using flaxseed as a substitute for eggs in most baked goods. I decided to buy some and give it a try....more

Milkless Monday

Maybe you're already meatless, but still include dairy in your diet. It's all baby steps, and I applaud every little step you take in making yourself, and the world, better. No wonder we love it so much. Hello, my name is Kim, and I am a recovering cheese-a-holic. ...more

A Day of Easy Meals

I try and bring breakfast and lunch with me to work everyday. Not only because we usually have amazing food at home, but it also saves a ton money and leftovers from my house are normally way better than anything I would get anywhere else anyways. Breakfast is pretty much always the same: crock pot oatmeal(creature of habit here!).  But this week I haven't been able to get it together to make my oatmeal in advance and plan my lunches ahead of time. So I've had to improvise.......more

Rice, Soy, Almond "Milk" or "Drink"?

Rice, Soy, Almond "Milk" or "Drink"?   I just arrived home from Lake Tahoe, sat down on the couch to relax and picked up the Trader Joe's Fearless Flyer and on the back page an ad for Rice Drink is being advertised.  It reads:Tader Joe's Organic Rice Drink is one of those "milk" drinks that aren't actually made with dairy products, so, technically, we can't call them milk.  But let's be honest; w...more
