American Idol Recap: The Top 10 Sing Billy Joel

With his vast and diverse songbook I was looking for more from our Idols. It's Billy Joel week at American Idol, and I was pleased. I'm a huge fan and own every studio album the guy has released. He's done every genre, and he's a storyteller. This should have been a huge opportunity for each Idol to really shine. But half of them did not. Jimmy Iovine brought in Diddy to help, and I was wondering: Why not bring Billy?...more

American Idol Recap: The Top 13 Tackle Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston

Because clearly the producers are cruel. And here's why:If you've watched American Idol for some time as I have, there's one thing you can count on. The boys will tackle Stevie Wonder at some point, and the girls will tackle Whitney (or Mariah or Celine). And when they do the judges will tell them how Stevie or Whitney or Mariah is one of the "best singers ever", so you really gotta bring it if you're going to try to tackle the master. And usually the implication is that it has not been brought....more

American Idol Season 11: Killing Us With Kindness

Ahhh...another year, another season of American Idol. Over the years I've run the gamut from loyal fan to fair weather friend, only tuning in to the final twelve in recent years, preferring not to get emotionally attached to hopefuls and watch their dreams smashed after experiencing some ups and downs in my own creative career....more

Gaga Ain't No Lady

I’m a little late on this one, I know.  Actually, what I’m about to discuss has been bothering me for a while and really reached a peak at the American Idol Finale a couple of weeks back.  I had decided to just let it go, just move on, but I can’t.  I have to “Express Myself” (note the Madonna reference) and then, hopefully, I can get on with my life. It seems that everybody is ‘gaga’ over Lady Gaga right now.  That is no surprise.  I’ve been on the planet long enough now to recognize a marketing phenomenon when I see one.  They come, some stay, som...more

Yikes, thankfully, I missed that performance.

Thanks for your comments.

American Idol – Season 10, Episode 38 ‘Finalists’ Finale

Mommy Emily is a great fan of every American Idol contestant. You ask her why all of them, I don’t think she will answer straight to the point. She is always saying, “…my point is that the time they go onstage, they are already winning the battle against their limits, they become true American Idols.” How inspiring! The American Idol season 10’s last episode will be a national head-to-head this year. At 8 p.m. Tuesday, Fox’s famous show displays its two youngest finalists ever. The champion will be broadcasted in a two-hour variety show at 8 p.m. Wednesday. This will be very majestic! To no one’s astonishment, Scotty McCreery, the angelic-voiced 17-year-old country baritone conservative, takes on Lauren Alaina, 16, the conventional country girl I reckoned for a win from her first tryout presence in January....more

Sorry, I commented first on my own post but I really love this show. I LOVE YOU!more

What I learned from American Idol once I stopped pitching it....

Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.” ~ Mark Victor Hansen...more

Lady Gaga: Feminism Via Genitalia Footwear?

Is it possible that Gaga, who has been known to opine on such socially-charged issues as gays in the military and the unjust harshness of current immigration laws, was championing women’s causes by wearing the ultimate in feminist footwear?...more
