Dec 1: Anniversaries

Missing my prince

My husband is gone for a whole week.  He’s in Vegas for a mandatory training for work…. kinda ironic that it is in Vegas I think. ...more

Here's a Quarter (Century) With Someone Who Cares

My husband I have been married 25 years, a quarter of a century, this week.  Amazing, huh, since I’m only 24 years old?  I remember anniversaries being a big deal back in my parents’ day – the 25th anniversary was called the “Silver Wedding Anniversary” (your 50th, if you live that long, is called the “Golden Wedding Anniversary”, BTW)....more

The Wedding Curse

We were married 17 years ago today.  But we're not celebrating. The problem isn’t the state of the union—but the date of the union. Flashback to 1994.  It’s my second marriage—a small wedding on short notice—and it involves complicated logistics— work, two sets of kids, and me relocating from Los Angeles to Carmel.  To settle my kids before starting a new school, we settle on July 17—telling family and a few friends who make plans to come....more

The Anniversary

Earlier this year, my husband’s parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. This is a very important milestone for any couple. It was an especially important event for my husband. I felt that he really needed to celebrate and honor his parents…more than they did. I think that having his parents renew their vows would restore his faith in marriage and hope for us to strengthen ours. As I witnessed them renewing their vows, I took stock of this couple before me. This couple, who enveloped me in their love by accepting me into their family as their daughter-in-law....more

Celebrating our 5th on Hou Hai Lake, Beijing

People say that it’s good luck to give wood for the fifth anniversary. I’m not sure why, but I think it’s probably got something to do with the adding of experiential rings; growing together, evolving. The roots that flourish bring life to more and more buds, each new year that you are together....more

Blogiversary #2

Yesterday marked the 2 year anniversary of when I started this blog.  I started it because I was having difficulty coping, in every possible way.  I asked for advice but it wasn't enough.  I read some books, but it wasn't enough.  I looked online.  And I became afraid.  So, I decided to add my voice to the fray.  I didn't know who, if anyone, was ever going to see it.  But I would tell my story.  I would relate my experiences.  I would try to educate others. ...more

Summer Memories

Keeping Her Cool is having a blog hop with a great twist: favorite summer memories. And it fits right in with what I've been thinking about lately, which is that this month marks five years since I met my husband.  Now, that doesn't sound like much, but we've really been through a lot (not even counting the twins, if that says anything), and I can honestly say he's the best thing to ever come my way.  Ever. I'm incredibly lucky and incredibly in love.Would you like a pictur...more

Seventeen years ago, 2 very young people made solemn vows to each other in the presence of great friends, family, and loving supporters.  Last night Brian and I watched our wedding video.  Tonight, we will steal away for a few hours to have dinner, reflect upon the last 17 years, and dream about the years to come.   Life lesson:  Milestones are important   Why do we celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, and even mark a day of remembrance we call Memorial Day?  It is so important to set aside time for pointed reflec...more
