From where I sit, I can hear the chatter of a half a dozen little voices. Our house is the unofficial hangout of the neighborhood kids. A few years ago when I required that the kids play at my house, I didn't know what what I was getting into. At the time I required it because the neighborhood kids were older and had freedoms that bordered on unsafe. When they were younger, I figured that if they played here, I could keep an eye on my kids and temporarily prevent any danger or mischief the other kids could get into in the meantime....more
My younger brother lives in Marin County in California. It's not the best of neighborhoods, but he and his wife do the best they can to see to it that their two girls have what they need. She works for the county, and he is a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where they live. In addition to his own children, my brother took in our 17-year-old nephew recently. That's another long story, but the short of it is that his parents haven't really their job, and so my brother stepped up and took over....more
Do you have that neighbor when you see marching across the lawn you jump and hide behind the tree? I have the Thistle Lady. She has been a growing thorne in my side and there is no escape! Help! If you have any advice - it would be greatly appreciated!

It is hard for me to imagine a life without neighbors. From since I can remember, I have lived in a subdivision - cookie cutter houses with people close enough to catch your conversations on baby monitors.
What strikes me as interesting is people's lack of decency. Take, I don't know, my neighbor.
