From Country Chic to City Sleek: Painted Plaid Dress

I had the honor of doing a guest post this past summer for Alison from Get Your Pretty On where I took an eyelet top from country chic to city sleek. It was a fun concept to work with so I thought I'd give it another whirl with this super versatile Anthropologie painted plaid dress. I have no shame when it comes to this dress. I fell in love with this dress the minute I lay my eyes on it but, as always, I could not bring myself to purchase it at full price. I stalked it as if my life depended on it. When Anthropologie had a sale, I totally pounced on it and I'm glad I did because I snagged one of the last ones left at my local store....more

Sitting Like a Lady

Mother’s Day started with a bang.  Literally.  As I got a head start on the laundry Sunday morning (or so I thought) parts of our washing machine suddenly detached and made the scariest noise I have ever heard.  Needless to say the machine is no longer usable, and what better timing for the machine to break than a Sunday when a week’s worth of laundry needs to be done? So I ended up spending the better part of Mother’s Day at Best Buy searching for a new washer/dryer and then lugging two giant trash bags of dirty clot...more

How To Create Today's Embellished Tops

I look at the embellished t-shirts and cardigans at Anthropologie, J. Crew, and even Old Navy -- since last year, these retailers have featured thin, flimsy items with embellishments for $40-$70. I wonder who would buy these items, since looking at them shows that the work involved is quite simple. I'm obviously not the only person thinking these embellishments are easy to do. ...more

Revamping Your Closet For Fall

I know you've read it before, but the first step toward updating your Fall look is culling! Go through your closet, make outfits of what you've got - lay things out on your bed, or the floor. Repair hems, check for stains, check for fit. Then, ask yourself: when was the last time you wore each item? Is the item in question comfortable? Professional? Does it require too much special attention, i.e. a slip and a cami and control top pantyhose? Is that more work than you want to devote to that outfit? ...more

Unexpectedly Hot - Turtlenecks

Just to be clear, I mean hot as in, you know, hawt, but of course turtlenecks are also hot as in temperature, which is what makes them so perfect. It's totally possible to be all cozy and covered-up and turn heads at the same time. ...more
