Paleo, Small Batch, Chunky Spiced Apple Sauce ~ GAPS and AIP Friendly.
Usually around fall time I make a big batch of this spiced applesauce since organic apples are better priced during their peak season but I love to be able to have this applesauce more than once during just one season of the year and so I developed a smaller batch recipe for it.
It’s finally mid-March and spring is just around the corner (or so I’m telling myself). The weather this past week has been crazy! Monday started off nice, with temperatures in the upper 40’s. Snow was beginning to melt and I could see brown patches of grass showing up everywhere. But I had to remind myself not to get too excited, because after all, this is Chicago weather. By Wednesday, we got hit with yet another snowstorm. And do you know what’s even harder to believe? On Friday, temperatures were in the mid 50’s, and then today, back to the 20’s....more

Recently one of our Mamas was told applesauce was no longer an acceptable snack for kids to bring to school. Upon hearing this I had to scratch my head and re-think all the times I thought I was “winning” when I got my daughter to eat applesauce with her meal and felt better that my picky eater was getting more than just Goldfish Crackers and a slice of American cheese that day....more
I came home from the fruit market with a bushel of apples. They were Molly Delicious — ripe, juicy and destined to be classified as seconds, also known as not perfect. It could also mean overly ripe, spotted or bruised. Seconds are ideal for making applesauce....more
