Teaching Our Kids Independence - Then Having Them Teaching It Back to Us!

Today, my daughter returned a present to me which I had given her years ago, when she was really little.I have been visiting her in Brazil, for the last week and for several reasons, until today, she had not wanted to leave my side for more than a minute. Part of it was the sweetness of being together again and part of it was a newly grown protective streak....more

Saying yes for the sake of pleasure

As therapist and holistic sex educator Gina Ogden, Ph.D., writes in Women Who Love Sex,  there is a curious paradox in our culture about women’s sexuality: "While there is increasing encouragement for women to say ‘No’ to abuse and violence, there is still virtually no broad-based encouragement to say ‘Yes’ to pleasure”(xi)....more

For the love of all things holy, AP moms, please help me.

I'm going to try to be coherent, but I haven't gotten more than a couple hours of sleep in a long time, and last night Zofia never let me go to bed. Night time has never been an easy time for me as a parent. My kids rule me. I have always co-slept with my 3 year old and still do even now that Zofia, 7 months, is here. I tried having her in the same room with us and she just didn't sleep. The ladies fed off eachother's energy and just stayed awake, so I put Zofia in her crib in her own room and she slept much better. Until now. ...more

Stretched: Spreading Myself Among the Kids

Sometimes there just doesn’t seem to be enough of me to go around. Right from the day when I heard those fateful words, “Definitely two babies,” I knew that there would be tough times to come. Times when I just couldn’t give both children what they needed right when they needed it. Of course, since then I’ve doubled that problem, and now I am stretching my resources between four small people. Sometimes I have reinforcements, but often it is just me and them....more
