We were nominated some time ago for "Best Special Needs Blog" over at Parents magazine. I was thrilled - and perhaps slightly horrified that I was thrilled because well, I'm not supposed to be excited over stuff like that, right? But in all honesty, I am. It feels good to feel as loved as you've all made me feel, with the support, comments and good vibes you've showered over me, over Moxie - and Micah and Mikey. Our whole fam-clan. It makes the fuzzy warm butterflies go nuts in my heart. ...more

When it comes to writing about the annual primetime Emmy awards, it's hard to know where to start.  Do I start with the awards and how some very worthy performances were rewarded, even though so many more were overlooked in favor of "paint-by-numbers voting?"  Or do I start with the snooze-worthiness of the show itself? ...more

Nicole Plue, Koren Grieveson Are the Only Women Chefs to Win Beard Awards

Monday night, the upper echelon of the restaurant world gathered in New York City to toast amazing and innovative cooking. The James Beard Foundation Awards, which celebrate everything from innovative cuisine to great wine lists, drew culinary heavy hitters from around the country for a night of feasting and feting. Many call it the Oscars of food. But, as the restaurant world is a male-dominated industry, it comes as very little surprise that most of those who received medals were men. ...more

Honoring Teen and Tween Volunteers for Outstanding Service

One of the most important things we can teach our teens and tweens is the importance of giving. Not having much money at that age to donate, the best way for youth to give is by volunteering in charitable efforts. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards was created 15 years ago to recognize young heroes who have made exceptional impacts on the lives of others through acts of volunteerism. ...more
