Guilty Pleasure Movies: My Secret Oscars

For every "best of" list, you can bet there's going to be a "worst of" counterpart. For instance, right on the heels of this year's Oscar nomination list comes the Golden Raspberry Foundation's Razzie award list, with nominations for worst actress, worst actor, worst picture and so on. ...more

Did Adam Lambert Go Too Far on the AMAs? Nah!

Dear Adam, It's me, Megan.  You know, I write those "Idol Chit Chats" over at Megan's Minute.  We met briefly in New York right after you lost the American Idol title to that other guy, Allen what's his name.  You were so nice and sweet.  But you weren't showing off that sweet side the other night on the American Music Awards, were you?  Simulated man on man oral sex!  Man on man open mouthed kissing!  Right there on the live ABC stage!...more

Chattering the 2009 Emmy Awards

What better way to spend an evening, than watching a TV awards show while chattering away with friends?  Well that's what a group of BlogHer CEs and I did last night during the 61st annual Emmy Awards.  Big winners were "Mad Men," "30 Rock," Glenn Close and Bryan Cranston, but what was the show like?  Well, my fellow CEs and I Chattered live throughout the show and I'm here to let you in on the conversation. ...more

I've been a professional writer since just after we partied like it was 1999 (of course, it was because it actually WAS 1999). I started writing for a small local newspaper and became one of their major contributors by the time I left over three years later. ...more

Mercury Prize 2009 Shortlist

I'll admit it; I've been a bad music blogger. Since I abandoned my old music blog, Five Dollar Radio, I've become increasingly lax in exploring new music. Dare I say it? ...more

Primetime Emmy Nominations 2009: The Celebrated and The Snubbed

First I'll give you the good news.  Because this year the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences decided to open up the top Emmy categories to six nominations instead of five, several deserving nominees sneaked in when they might otherwise have been overlooked. The bad news, several of my favorites were passed over in favor of nominees that I consider extremely questionable. A total of 22 nominations went to 30 Rock and Mad Men got the most drama nominations with 16. ...more

2009 BET Awards: Michael Jackson Tribute or Travesty?

BET gave out their annual music awards last night.  I'm going to be straight up right now and say I didn't watch it.  That's right, I'm the BlogHer TV Contributing Editor and I didn't watch that TV show. In fact the only way my cable box ever lands on the dreaded BET channel is if my finger slips on the remote.  Then I make sure to get the heck out of there before my eyeballs fry and my blood boils. ...more

"For most of history, Anonymous was a woman."

As I was tidying the yard with my husband this afternoon, I was thinking about the wonderful Virginia Wolff quote - "For most of history, Anonymous was a woman" - perhaps because half of the six Pulitzer Prizes for drama and letters, which were announced on Monday, went to women. ...more

2009 L’OREAL-UNESCO Women in Science Awards

With all the current anger at certain corporations it is easy to loose sight that many corporations do honor and support diverse communities. Corporations have and continue to support their communities.  The 2009 L’Oreal-UNESCO Women In Science Awards presented five scientists with $100,000 each in recognition of their work. ...more
