Maybe it's just a phase

I'm 43, and over the past several years in different workplaces, have begun to slowly realize that I'm no longer the youngest employee, and that's been ok.  I still feel young, still look young, and am in decent shape....more

How To Not Be Awkward

There was a meme on the internets the other day, it went like this:I will not be awkward today.Person: “Hey.”Me: “Good, thanks!”I high-fived the screen and rolled on the floor laughing alone thinking “OMG ME EVERY DAY!”But it actually cued an uncomfortable reality I’d been facing in recent months: I really hadn’t had a sense of confidence when confronted with questions about my life, and it’s left me in awkwardly dangling or abruptly ended conversations that could have felt a lot better....more

Socially Awkward

I’ve come to the conclusion that many people are introverts, and I am basing this on the amount of blog pieces I have read in the last year that claim, “I am introvert!  Hear me roar (or hear me whisper with my head down)!”  Apparently, being an introvert is not a unique thing.  However, different people give introverts different traits, so after combing through twenty articles, I was so confused about what an introvert actually is that I decided to stop trying to label myself something that sounds so fancy.  I don’t know whether I have the characteristics of an introver...more

Why Crying’s Not Allowed On A First Date.

There was just something about him…Danny 2.0 sent me a long and thoughtful message on POF soon after all the sound and fury and ridiculousness of the 22 year old 37 year old. He wasn’t really my type and most of his pictures left me cold but there was one to which I was curiously drawn so I replied. Immediately. Well, Danny freaked out and made some stupid crack about “Wow! That was fast!” so I let it go, thinking: “Huh. ” It didn’t match what he’d first said, let’s put it that way. ...more

That's Not Hummus!

I pride myself on healthy eating. It's my thing. But I've been slipping lately. I work from home. It's intense and hurried. I cram my work into the times my children are at camp and daycare, and I cram my food in, too.I love my job. I do. It's dreamy. I work on a cause I believe in, use many of my skills, and get to work from home with flexible hours at a respectable salary. I'm lucky. It's a privilege. Most people don't get to balance their profession, family, and personal time like I do....more

An Awkward Girl’s Guide to Networking

As an awkward girl, networking is the bane of my existence. I really can’t even describe how much I hate it. We’ve already talked about my lack of conversation skills, so the idea of making small talk with a bunch of people I don’t know is just not appealing to me. But with all of that said, networking plays a vital part in surviving today’s society. It can be hard to find a job, friends or even relationships without it....more

What's more awkward than a day in the life of me? The answer might surprise you.

"Mommy... You're awkward," my daughter advised one morning, while testing out her best Nicktoons voice. "Do you even know what that means?" I asked, certain there was no way she could....more

Yes. All of This Did Actually Happen.

So, yesterday I had to go to my lady doctor (sorry dudes, but I promise to not go into any awful details!), which is just an all-around unwanted experience for every woman. I have literally never met a woman who has said "I love going to my hoo-ha doctor. It's the best!" unless said woman was using extreme sarcasm, because let's be honest here: It's the fracking worst....more

The Ex-bestfriend from highschool and beyond

Tomorrow July 16th, 2012 I am going to see my ex-bestfriend. Mind you this is a friend who was my bestfriend through out highschool and most of college. We have had a most difficult relationship. She tried to tell me not to marry him. She tried to rationalize with me. She stood her ground. I just wish she had been firmer. Or she had tried to talk to my parents. Or, she could have talked to Shawn. But I did it. I married him. and found my way back from Germany....more

How Can Something So Wrong Be So Freakin' Funny?!?

Ahhhh, summer!  The time of the year when people shed their layers and make gloriously bad choices in attire.  The season when you may ask yourself "Do they own any mirrors?" or perhaps "Hmmm, do you think it was wise to wear your 7 year old's suit to the pool today?"  But then, where would we get such delicious fodder?   Here are some of the questionable decisions observed poolside at our club yesterday:...more
