Back To School Shopping Angst

It's that time of the year when you know that summer is ending. Circulars and coupons of back to school sales get crammed into my mailbox or bombarded in my email that I become anxious before I even look at the sales. ...more

Spare some change?

It’s the same every August.  My husband finds me in our closet emptying all the loose change out of the purses I have used throughout the year.“Back to school shopping?” he asks.“Yes.  Once again, it’s depleted the budget.  Do me a favor and check underneath the seats in the car.  I’m looking for another ten dollars and then we have the electric paid.”It’s so tiring....more

Tips on How Not to Blow Your Budget with Back to School Shopping

Ah August. The sun is shining, the grass is burning, the flowers are blooming (or wilting) and we all feel the winds of change off in the distance. It will be back to school time in just a matter of a few weeks for many students....more

Beat the Back-to-School Shopping Blues!

It's that time of year again: school open house invitations are arriving in mailboxes, the smell of freshly sharpened pencils fills the air, and the newspaper is littered with back-to-school shopping ads.  Even though I live for the thrill of a great bargain, I will not be hitting the stores.  Except for a few notebooks and dry-erase markers, I will not be doing any back-to-school shopping. I finished my kiddo's clothes shopping months ago. Image Source: The Children's Place ...more

Back to school shopping goes "low-impact"

Back to school shopping was a ritual when I was growing up. Let's be honest, I loooooved getting new clothes, despite the fact that I was typically allotted one new shirt, one new pair of pants and shoes if and only if I had outgrown the last pair. Meanwhile - and this was the torturous part of this whole ritual - it appeared that my female classmates had all been given keys to the car, mom's credit card with a $10K limit and full run of Nordstrom's. Now, I have two boys who are fashion-unaware and quite content with hand-me-downs from friends....more

I Love The Back To School Part, Just Not The Shopping

I wish I could say that I was one of the organized back to school shoppers, but like these people standing in line waiting for the store to open at 10 a.m., I am not at all organized. I am the definition of a last minute shopper. Go ahead, google "last minute shopper", I'm sure there will be a photo of me there. I absolutely love the end of summer, and having my son back in school, but I hate the shopping aspect of it. ...more

Back-to-School Jeans. You Know You Love Them.

I can still see them, my beloved back-to-school jeans. I got them every year and their denim was so indigo-dark it hurt to look at them, especially when paired with my bright-white tennies. Life felt crisp and new again in back-to-school jeans. Which is why I still buy myself a pair every year. ...more

Back to School Clothes Swap

As summer draws to an almost end, thoughts turn to school and back to school shopping. It can be a bit daunting really, all that purchasing and planning and materials lists and what not.
