Are You Addicted To Busyness?

How many times have you heard variations on this conversation?Person A: How’s it going?Person B: I’m insanely busy. You know, the usual.Person A: Yeah, me too. I’m scheduling into 2015 already.Person B: I get it. Haven’t taken a real vacation in over a year.Person A: Well, gotta count our blessings for being busy, right?Person B: Amen.It seems to me that we wear busyness like a badge of honor. I’m busy, therefore I’m important and valuable, therefore I’m worthy. And if I’m not busy, forget it. I don’t matter....more

Sunday Summary - Life in a Flurry Edition

Happy February! At the risk of sounding trite, I seriously can't believe we're already into the second month of 2013. Life is certainly flying by! Well, it's flying by for me, anyway, in a flurry of Italian classes, work, web design and blog writing, dinner out, and bowling. (Yes, I did say bowling - my first time doing so in years! I'm not going to tell you my final score, but it was distinctly UNimpressive. I had a ton of fun, though!) ...more

Who would have thunk it?

If you had told me, in my twenties, that an afternoon such as the one I’m having would bring me such a measure of happiness, I would have scoffed (maybe even sneered – I was that kind of girl) and figured that you had zero concept of who I was.And yet today is the epitome of a happy day for me....more

Trying to catch up

Since I returned from vacation at the beginning of this week I've been trying to catch up on all the things I need (and want) to do (including sleep!), but I haven't yet been able to manage this with any great success. It seems as though I've been going almost non-stop ever since I got back from New York, and have ended up squeezing in only the absolute essentials on my To Do list. I'm not sure I remember ever being this busy before... I'm must say, though, that I'm enjoying it! ...more

There is No Way You'll Ever Be Busier Than Me!

I may have blogged about this before. I most likely have because it's both my biggest pet peeve and my biggest struggle. Kinda funny how my biggest pet peeve is also one of my biggest struggles.Back when I was in high school, I was muttering to my friends that I wanted an after-school National Honor Society meeting to hurry up because I was supposed to leave right away to go to a surprise party about an hour and a half away. I didn't want to be late because I desperately didn't want to spoil the surprise. Everyone hates a surprise-spoiler....more

What Would You Sacrfice for the Life of Your Dreams?

In this American culture, we are raised to believe that we can have anything and everything we could ever dream of. The wider culture tells us that there is nothing we can't have if we want it badly enough. There is nothing that is beyond our reach. Our reach extends far: These beliefs are spreading over the globe like a poison. Unchecked desire leads to obesity of the body, mind, and spirit. ...more

Take a Look Around

Today while I was driving down a street, a street I drive down at least twice a day, I passed a building I must have passed almost two hundred times before. But today I noticed it. Today I did a double take. I was adjusting my car visor and I happened to look up and see that on top of this building sat a bell tower. It looked so cool against the late afternoon sky. And I thought to myself, Wow, I never noticed that before. In all the hundreds of times I passed that building, I never took a moment to look at it, to notice it. ...more
