Gen Yers, or Millennials, are taking the business world by storm, and you’re probably hiring them, realizing what fantastic new skills they possess and wondering how you can a) keep up with them and b) challenge them enough to stay on board!
From my experience, these are the things this generation is looking for in a work environment.
These are the thoughts that went through my head as my friends and I watched the ball drop.
I want 2009 to be like 2008, only more so.
In 2008, I began writing book reviews consistently for the Star-Ledger. I read and wrote about all kinds of books, on deadline in some cases. I read books I might not have picked up on my own, and found a way to understand and interpret them for readers. I'm proud of the writing I did.
There's a lot of speculation lately about what Americans talk about at the kitchen table. Well my kitchen table has become the hub for our discussions about the state of the economy and the impact on our family. You won't find any political rhetoric and homey colloquialisms in our dialogs. No, we talk about real-life issues like the risk of my 52-year old cousin losing her job due to corporate downsizing. To protect her identity, I'll call her "Jane Six-Pack".
When life hands you lemons...make lemonade. Old cliches may sound trite, but they generally have a good point.
When MS began interfering with work and play, I found myself at a loss. When my body refused to cooperate in the old familiar way, I spent endless hours in bed or on the living room sofa waiting for improvement. Even the simple pleasure of focusing on reading a book became difficult. I'd been handed a lemon; I lost my spark.
Sometimes we go through obstacles in life that are undefined, and we seat around wondering why and how this could be happening to us.How could everything be going so well then one day things suddenly change, the engine in the car blows out, then on top of that it feels like no one is there to lean on,a roof over your head is not always guarntee, having a full time job and career seems impossible..and you think dang Im 20 and dont have nothing.
I've recently become quite the fan of blogs, although if you had asked me about a year ago what a blog was, I doubt I would have been able to tell you. I have a friend who has a blog on another site and I will often read hers, click a link which leads to another, and another, and before I know it, 17 blogs later I glance at the clock and realize an hour has passed in mere minutes.
The one type of blog which I haven't run across is one that truly speaks to me and is similar to my life and what I am currently going through. But then again, that isn't all that surprising.
