Today at work I realized that no one is reading, not even me. As I was going through my normal steps of work, various issues on different screens for different people, I noticed that I’m not actually reading anything. I’m clicking the button I normally click and typing in what I know goes in each space. I opened emails and responded, replied to IMs and started some email strings of my own; all the while just skimming through the information.
I'm not just remotely Type A. I am predominantly a Type A personality.For those who don't know, Type As are known for being ambitious, organized, driven and, yes, even a bit competitive. We are proactive, hate indecision, despise wasting time and just want to get to the point, so we can get to the next thing on our to-do list.So imagine, someone like me now living without days full of meetings, lists, tasks and action items. A study released by the Center for American Progress shows that in the down economy, women increasingly became the sole breadwinners, despite the persistent wage gap, since men were being laid off at higher rates to trim companies' bottom line. More and more men defined themselves as "stay-at-home fathers." Women were fully half the paid workforce as of last year, and because women were concentrated in lower paying jobs were less likely to be laid off.
