I have cannibalized my original post to create the following:
First, the highlights:
Late breaking news: Chris Brown charges long-time girlfriend, Rihanna, with domestic violence abuse. Brown alleges that Rihanna was physically and emotionally abusive. When asked why he continues his relationship with the Bajan beauty, he replied simply, "You just don't understand," said Chris with a sigh, "I love her."

The news that Chris Brown was arrested for violently attacking his girlfriend Rihanna shocked the world Sunday night, overshadowing all the Grammy hype.
Violence against women has existed since the dawn of mankind.
The barbaric actions of Chris Brown spotlight his undeveloped and insecure nature and should be looked on as an opportunity to learn and grow. As Moms we represent the highest power! We are born leaders to our children, the choices we make lead to the Chris Browns or a man like Barack Obama.
My thoughts go to Rihanna and her Mom whose arms she’s in.
Doubtless by now there's nary a soul living in the continental United States who isn't at least vaguely aware of what happened early Sunday morning between singer Rihanna and her boyfriend Chris Brown. And though the details may still be somewhat sketchy, what is known for certain is that, shortly after leaving Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party late Saturday night, Brown and Rihanna fought in Brown's rented Lamborghini in L.A.'s Hancock Park neighborhood, and police were called by a person in the area who heard Rihanna's screams. Comparing various reports about the altercation, it's clear that the injuries Rihanna sustained at Brown's hands were significant and serious -- contusions, bite wounds, black eyes and bruising have been mentioned in almost every noteworthy report -- and that Brown both threatened to kill Rihanna and choked her into an unconscious state. But as the days pass what's also becoming clear is that Rihanna may not be cooperating fully with authorities, and may also be reluctant to press charges against Brown. And, like many of you I'm sure, hearing that makes me profoundly, profoundly sad.
By most standards, I am pop-culturally retarded. Or at least I thought I was until I started visiting www.perezhilton.com everyday. Now I’m Hollywood-rumor educated. Somehow that seemed to make watching MTV’s VMA’s (Video Music Awards) a good idea.
Perez Hilton summarized the VMA's in a 5 1/2 minute drunken v-blog, but it takes me a bit longer to do the play by play. And yes, you can now feel bad for the people who watch TV with me.
I fear I’m in real danger of becoming a dirty, old woman.
It’s somehow not quite as creepy as being a dirty old man, but still.
I don’t like it one little bit.
And I blame John Mayer.
John Mayer is my guilty pleasure. I’ve loved him for a while now, even though he is eight years younger than me. He seems so mature and I look good for my age, so I convinced myself I could fit in with his rock star friends. I convinced myself the age gap was nothing - we were all practically contemporaries!
