Teaching a Tween to Cook without the Easy Bake Oven

Last night, my lovely 10 year-old daughter made dessert.  In her Easy Bake Oven.  Delicious it was not.  My husband and I, being fantastic parents, ate the dessert she prepared.  We agreed it was passed time to teach her how to cook with real food and ingredients.  Today I embarked on teaching my tween how to cook without her light-bulb fueled oven.  We chose a chocolate cake and frosting.  To me it seemed a win-win choice because it's dessert and chocolate.  How could we lose?...more
