Cheats Spinach and Ricotta Gnocchi

I wish I could report that I spent my whole day studying for exams that are next week....but unfortunately this is not the case. Instead after school I took a (much needed) nap and did some cooking. Neither of these things will help me pass my law subject, but I can always convince myself that cooking is a justified procrastination......as I am studying at a culinary school after all, which is basically just cooking..... sort of...... ...more

This is the most simple recipe as long as you actually remember to get your frozen dough out early enough for it to thaw and rise by dinner time. ...more

Beer Marinated Chicken Thighs

I love marinated chicken, it has so much flavor and its never dry.  I ended up marinating this longer than the recipe called for because we had an unexpected event come up.  This recipe has a great, unique flavor.  I think it's the cinnamon.  Whatever it is, it's delicious....more

Magic, One-Ingredient Banana Ice Cream

We’re having a bit of a sweets problem around here. I’m pretty sure I emerged from the womb with an obsession for sugary treats (wonder how I got to weigh 260 pounds?) and even with Weight Watchers as a constant in my life, I have yet to conquer it. Instead I aim simply to manage it, to make sure that the sweets I eat are a) worth the calories, and b) made with top-quality ingredients....more

Creme Fraiche Lemon Pie

About a month ago I learned how to make homemade creme fraiche. It is so ridiculously easy. From what I have read it is very expensive. But I must admit I have never even seen it in a store here. It is the French version of sour cream and can be used in sweet or savory dishes....more

Respite and Recipes

Our good friends came over last night to finalize details on our California vacation that is coming up very soon.  I am so excited about this trip; I’ve never been to the Golden State before and want to see everything.  Since that is not possible (we only have a week), we are trying to pick a few highlights and have some relaxation time.  All but one of us will be attending a wedding on the Saturday before we leave and the other one will be arriving home from a two-week trip to Africa.  We are going to fly to Sacramento and spend our first two days in Napa Valley.  ...more

Weekend Plans

I love, love our local farmer's market.  It is about 2 miles away now and is open every Tuesday and Friday.  I got there this morning about 8:00 and there was just a wonderful array of baked goods, honey, squash and zucchini (which I have coming out my ears from my own garden right now), herbs, onions, potatoes and some tomatoes.  There was even one guy there with corn, but it seemed a little small, so I passed on that.  And oh my goodness, the flowers!...more
