Honor the Decision, One Moment at a Time

Yesterday a great man died who spent most of his life working for freedom.   Today I watched a video from Mary Morrisey where she recounted her meeting with Nelson Mandela.  She had asked him how he’d gone from being an angry young man to one who was known for promoting peace.   He told her he had to make a decision, and then honor that decision, one moment at a time. ...more

Is it ok to Criticise?

Some books are just awful.... It is sad, but true. Even sadder, somehow when I start a book, I just have to keep going. I could probably count on one hand the number of times I have not 'seen a book through' to the end. Result.... lots of time reading really BAD books. The question I am asking myself now, at the beginning of this book review adventure; 'Should I be including negative book reviews on Little Miss Kindle?'...more

I spent most of the last two decades living in larger cities with at least a half hour commute to work in the morning.  Part of the appeal of my current location was “no more driving” to get to work.  I was excited about the 7-minute commute and it was a big selling point to taking the job, buying the house and settling into this community. Why then, did I leave an extra half hour early this morning and travel several minutes out of our normal route?  It was the first time I had ever done this… but it was fun.  My son sat in the back seat, watching the cars out t...more

Why we aren't open to adoption

"You still don't have kids?" "When are you having kids?" "Oh you guys must do something about that." "Let me teach you how..." Perhaps, this 2013, I should start counting how many kinds of these remarks do we get in a year. It's actually ok to hear these remarks at the first two years of marriage, since we actually didn't want kids during that period. But after 4 years, these get into us.  It equates to pressure.  Actually, after 4 years, we get this: "How about adoption?" The answer is no.  And why? ...more

The Move

My life is currently in flux.  I am a middle-aged woman living in the 3 bedroom house that my ex and I built together but with only myself and my dogs living there now.  Well, there is the family of 4 that are temporarily living with me while their house is being built but once they are gone I will be on my own again. ...more

Was the Right Decision For Me to Divorce Him?

Simply put, there will be days where divorced life sucks! You may feel overwhelmed with all the additional responsibilities that used to be split between you and your Ex.  You may be feeling lonely, even sad, at times.  You also may be feeling strapped for cash....more

We're Done, I'm Moving On

I will never forget the day when sitting in a marriage counselor's office with my husband after months of sessions; he looked at me said 'You're finished, aren’t you?'. At that moment all I could do was nod my head and say slowly 'Yes'....more

Wearing a costume for Halloween has been something I have been avoiding for about 8 years now. As a woman, it seems like all the stores offer the simple headband-with-ears or something so skank-ified that I wouldn't be able to look at myself if I dared to try it on. I mean, really? I like my body, it's fantastic for having had two kids, but come on. I'm not going to dress like a 20-year old sorority girl who's out to get drunk and stupid. It's just not going to happen. ...more
