My Journey To Take Back the Control!

Today is my daughter's 11th birthday. She would love for me to go ice skating with her. Unfortunately I'm over weight and  don't have the strength in my knees to endure standing on ice skates.  I hate not beîng physically fit and able to engage in sporting activities. I have decided to take control of my weight!  I have heard a lot about Advocare. The cleanse phase for 10 days seems pretty intense!  I plan to purchase my supplements and start the 24 day challenge.  Pray for me as I begin this journey. I will check in and update you on my progress....more

Does It Hurt to Be Healthy?

Yesterday I was in Publix (grocery store) and I had made a comment to the young female cashier that you pay and arm and a leg to be healthy.  Her response was, "It hurts to be healthy" meaning it "hurts" your pocketbook.  That made...more

The Noshing Made Me Do It

The last issue of my formerly favorite magazine finally arrived and I couldn’t be happier to say good-bye. You see, our 15-year relationship had grown stagnant and a little bit toxic.Year after year, I read the same articles about eating fresh vegetables and how to shop the perimeter of the grocery store. The same skinny, fresh-faced models showed off the workout routines—the only thing changing was the increasing skimpiness of their outfits. The final straw though was the constant noshing....more

Romancing the Scale: Actually Losing Weight This Time

In Which I Eat a Healthy Breakfast

This morning's breakfast is 1 cup of oatmeal with 2 tbsp of wheat bran, a tbsp of brown sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon, 3/4 of a medium apple (cored and chopped), and 1 cup of milk, part of which I poured on my oatmeal.  Healthy?  Certainly....more

Nutrition: Mindful Meals

Welcome to this week's Inspiration to Fitness subject: Mindful Meals. We all know (well, most of us anyway) what we should and shouldn't be eating, but sometimes the desire to eat things we know we shouldn't wins us over. And at the same time, if we could really pay attention to what and how much we're eating, we'd all be a lot healthier and weight loss would occur naturally....more

The Vacation Food Failure

So what I was hoping, while on vacation, is that I’d post about the challenges and triumphs of eating low-cholesterol while on vacation.Instead, my lo-co plan went on vacation.Want to know what a total food meltdown on vacation looks like?  Well, it starts with having Eggs Benedict TWICE.  (Apparently, I am a room service slut – thank goodness we rarely stay at wonderful places like this one in Southern California or I’d be on cholesterol meds in like 3 seconds flat)....more
