The Breakdown of a Breakup

Just recently, I had the opportunity to interview songwriter, producer and instrumentalist Terry Radigan about her new album, the Breakdown of a Breakup. Terry wrote all the songs on the album about three years ago following the end of her twenty-year marriage. As someone who writes about divorce, it was fascinating for me to talk to Terry and to understand that while I probably couldn't pen a song, writing in any form is therapeutic if you allow your writing to be honest. ...more

Mood Contagion

I wrote this post recently on my blog and it has produced so many comments as people ask, almost in frustration: 'what if I am all three. what then? To which I respond, the key is to know yourself, so you can love others better. See what you think....more

I Will Not Be ...

I haven't posted in a while, because a) I just haven't had time and b) things have been decent. I say decent because I've been just trying to accept certain things: - I will not be the girl in the bar a guy hits on. - I will not be the person who has a ton of friend to call up and do things with. - I will not be the employee who doesn't have to stop proving themselves. - I will not be the person I wish I was. People say you can change things -- your relationship status, your job situation, your social life. I'm starting to believe that's not true. ...more

Holiday Mindset Melt-Down

Fertility Friday 2

I had lunch the other day with an old friend. It had been years since we have seen each other but it all felt the same. We seem to come and go in each other’s lives to help the other out of a jam, weird how that happens. She will always have a special place in my heart even if years go by without talking. We have been “reunited” if you will because she is having fertility issues. As with every women going through this, we are all different and so are our issues. For instance my doctor thought my situation would be simple enough but after 2 years we realized that wasn’t the case......more

Fertility Friday 1

Let’s see how this works for all of you out there trying.  My memory of the strenuous two years of trying to have my own family is a very blurry one.  What I remember were the endless trips to Annapolis. Two hours there, two hours back.  Most months I would leave my house at 5:00 in the morning to make it to the Dr....more

Insanity: A Mothers Curse

Motherhood comes with so much more baggage than any woman could ever imagine. If you don't have children you might say "oh I've read every book I know what to expect." Well you are mother-effin wrong. I know, I've been there. If you are wanting children (or were like me and wanted them your whole life) then it is hard to see past the positives of a beautiful little baby....more

Knowing your child makes a difference

Being a parent is hard work. It is a labor of love, but they don't call it "labor" for nothing. The job is hard enough with the task of keeping our kids safe and teaching them how to be respectful citizens. Then you add each child's personality into the mix and you quickly see, what works for one, doesn't work for another. And as I'm learning, what suits my personality, doesn't necessarily suit the personalities of my kiddos. That makes this job of raising kids very difficult. ...more
