How does a plane just disappear? I cannot recall an instance of a plane with more than 200 passengers just vanishing. But that is what seems to have happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.There are so many questions, so many theories, numerous scenarios out there. Each day brings a plethora of news stories with more speculation, because the facts just aren’t there. My heart goes out to the families who just want to find their loved ones. And I continue to pray for a miracle.Sincerely, LT...more

Aches on a Plane

I have just returned from a trip across country that involved air travel.  I’m exhausted, I’m dehydrated (do they purposely suck all the moisture out of the air on the plane?), and I’m cranky.  No doubt my rants here are related to my current physiological and psychological state but, actually, these thoughts are not new.  Every time I fly I think the same things and I need to vent so that I can get on with my life.  You know, I’m OK with the security checks.  In fact, I was radiated yesterday in one of the full body scans.  Not something I would do for...more

Life Happens In Route

Life happens in route... by Carmen Dinorah written on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 9:47pm; posted on BlogHer on Thursday, November 11, 2010 Sitting in this airplane for the last two hours is enough to make anyone scream. The weather in route to my destination is really bad so they are holding us here until it clears up a little. Terror Fatigue: How Do You Keep From Teaching Your Kids to Hate?

I was at my parents' house basking in love and sugar-soaked holiday goodness when my husband told me about the man who literally lit his pants on fire while trying to blow up an international flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. I remember wondering how much of the conversation my five-year-old was taking in, then realizing I had absolutely no energy for terror of any sort....more

Flight Experience

This past week I took 5 flights in 5 days. I hate flying but it had to be done so I figured it would be a good chance to check out airlines and decide which I liked best. After all, I was flying three different airlines. The first flight was uneventful. From Oakland to Ontario airport (LA) on Southwest. I had A28 to board, but it did me nothing because I was in conversation with someone at the bar while drinking a bloody mary and was not worried about what seat I would get. Anyway, very uneventful. ...more

Peaceful and Stress-free travel with kids

I recently read an article about the challenges of flying with young children and was not surprised to hear that parents experience high levels of stress and anxiety from the experience; however, I was amazed at how much anger and resentment other passengers directed at the traveling parents.  Some readers commented that parents were “selfish” to travel with young kids and that the kids should be “drugged” with Benadryl. ...more

A Budget Traveler's Story
