Peter Pan Birthday Party

Ever thought about doing a Peter Pan Birthday for your child?Yes, I know you're probably thinking a Neverland theme, but I'm talking about something totally different. I'm talking about a party that includes giving to others... I'm pretty sure the term was coined because giving isn't just for grown-ups. J There is something really magical about teaching kids to give to others at a young age....more

A Man Named Bobby

I met a man named Bobby yesterday.  He was tall with brown hair and brown eyes. He had a beard.  This meeting between he and I was totally unplanned.  I offered to buy him lunch. He accepted with a quiet nod and a thank you. I told him I would meet him at Torchy’s Tacos.I arrive at Torchy’s and it is packed, as it is noon straight up. If you never have been there, it is very popular and always has a line out the door at lunch.  It is one of my favorite taco places. I snag a parking spot right in front of the door, my lucky day....more

Is It Okay to Set Rules on How I Want to Give?

This is my week in the school book fair, as I mentioned in my post offering some parent tips for the kids' literary shopping sprees.  Today, a little girl came to the book fair and was so sad that (a) we were out of the diary-style book she wanted and (b) she didn't have enough money for a book anyway.  Then she got all "I thought this would be the year I got a book" and I felt like I was in a scene from the A Christmas Carol....more

Our Family Resolution: A Year of Kindness

Last year, my New Year's resolution was to "Love out Loud" which was inspired by a Joyce Meyer book of the same name. I thought it was a good resolution, and it is. But definitely difficult to measure and I don't think I've been as successful as I had hoped. My intent was to really let the important people in my life know that they are loved. To be loud and carefree and always ready with words of love and kindness for my family and friends. Like with most resolutions, life often gets in the way of those intentions and so I think I have failed my own test....more

Give Your Best Gift

There is one gift that you can give that is far better than any other, it is the gift of you.  Your time. Your ideas. Your wisdom. Your intellect. Your generosity. Your kindness. These are all unique gifts that only you can give to others.  ”To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.“ ―Steve Prefontaine...more
