Why Glee Matters To Me

The television series Glee is quietly exiting, its series finale shoved away on a Friday night, seemingly just moments after its last season began in January. I can't say I know many people who will publicly admit to watching the show anymore, especially a 37-year-old mother of two with an MBA, but I am a loyalist: once hooked, I tend to stay with things to the bitter end. I don't feel that way about Glee though; I am truly, truly sad to see it ending, though I know it's definitely time to move on. ...more

Here's Why GLEE Should Just End With The Tribute Episode

I didn’t watch many episodes of GLEE last year because of the change in the schedule. Still, I felt an investment in knowing what happened to the characters I had come to appreciate. I was also pleased GLEE made it this long – I still feel bad about “My So Called Life” and “Popular” ending too soon....more

Addiction, Cory Monteith and Me

The passing of Cory Monteith has left me rattled. I am not a fan in the sense that I followed his career or life but I have watched Glee since the beginning. This news was especially difficult to hear because it came on the heels of the verdict in the George Zimmerman case. I was absolutely appalled that he was found not guilty in the murder of Trayvon Martin....more

Glee's Cory Monteith Dead at 31: How I'll Remember

I cried when Cory Monteith died, I admit it. It's not really an admission at all, because that would imply that there is something wrong with it, and I don't think that's true. (Image: © The Toronto Star/ZUMApress.com) I've watched Glee since the beginning. I watched it when it could do no wrong, and I didn't quit it when the criticism started, even though I got frustrated with the storylines at times. And unlike some internet critics, I always loved Cory Monteith's Finn. He was flawed and a little bit dorky. He never seemed to know what to do next, but he bumbled his way into some rocking musical numbers, and into finally figuring out that he needed to step up and help Rachel do the hardest part of any relationship in transition -- the leaving part. ...more

An Open Letter to Glee’s Creator on Behalf of Fat Girls Everywhere

I’m a big fan of the show Glee. It’s actually one of my favourite shows. It started out as a show that was about the underdogs, the ones that society steps on. It’s followed the stories of characters that I fell in love with over the past four years, and though I haven’t been very fond of the way that the show’s direction is going, I still love to hear the covers of the songs and watch the characters. Call it nostalgia, I guess. I think it’s done a lot of good for teens in our society, and I have to credit Ryan Murphy, its creator, with that....more
