Dear God

Dear God,I am getting married in a less month! (Of course, You already knew that). In the midst of all that is going on, I wanted to take the time to thank You.  I know I don’t have to write You, but I best organize my thoughts when I write them down, and I don’t want to leave anything out.You have been such a Faithful presence in my life, even when I was angry with You. You never left. When I felt the lack of Your presence, it was my fault. I turned away....more

Can you Swallow a Pocket knife?

My Uncle Bill could do the most amazing trick. All of us kids could be mesmerized for hours. He would sit in an old wooden folding chair while my cousins and I would gather at his feet.  Y'all, he could swallow his pocket knife!I can't make this stuff up...  He would sit in his chair and in a grand, dramatic way he would choke down his pocket knife.  Us kids, would just stare at him, thinking he would just die, but instead he would cough, and hack, and up would come the pocket knife....more

God Uses Fortune Cookies

Sometimes I think we put God in a box.  We have an expectation of who he is, how he works, what he does or does not do.   Our past, our lives, our parents, churches, philosiphies, denominations, convictions, experiences, everything comes together to create the image of God we have.  Sometimes though, I think God likes to surprise us.  He likes to catch us off guard.  It makes sense,  when Jesus came he completely turned upside down everything that everyone thought was "religion."   He taught things that were contrary to many re...more

Miracles & a GOOD God!

Today I saw a woman who had a torn meniscus & couldn’t bend her knees, get up on stage and kneel down. Yep, you read that right. Wanna know what the best thing is? That isn’t even the half of it. I saw a woman who dances through her pain from severe arthritis worshiping God, get healed. I saw a woman whose body was so weak from having Parkinson’s disease for 5 years walk up on stage without her cane which she has used everyday coming to school. Today, she walked laps around the auditorium, jumped up during worship & testified of a good God! ...more

Heartbroken Holidays

I should be in bed by ten.  I should be at the gym.  I should be more optimistic, use more restraint, and quit drinking full-calorie beer.  I have got to cut out the word “I” and perhaps not sit on the floor crying when my three-year-old tells me I’m the worst person ever while sitting in time-out attempting to slam the door closed with his feet. When I walk out of church because my two kids can’t keep their seats and I glance over to see my daughter humming whilst making a stack of hymnals......more
