Her tears wet my shoulder. I hardly knew her.Three minutes earlier, we’d been standing next to a cement pillar, talking quietly but intensely. Our bodies were close, the conversation intimate. An onlooker would have guessed we’d known each other for years....more
I love working out. You wouldn't know that by the lack of consistency in my execution. But when I do and my hour is finished...I'm one smiling proud gal. It's how easily I get distracted from getting to that hour that's my issue. I've complained to gyms over the years that those contracts they make us sign should come with a "we will drag your butt here kicking and screaming if necessary" clause....more
Do you hate to exercise? Many of us, who live and work don't get enough exercise. Between answering emails, working and taking care of the infinite list of things to do, exercise often ends up last on our list. If you can walk or bike with your kids to school, or are on your feet all day at work, or are you're lucky enough to have a dog to walk, then you might be getting close to the recommended amount of exercise....more
Ever notice how some workouts leave you feeling just so - so? And others make you feel that you can do anything? Cope with the demanding boss or never ending To Do List, cranky family, stack of bills? New research is pointing to the feel good factor and what it takes to get there from exercise. And, it's just what you'd guess....more
Ok, I have not kept up with my gym routine. But this week I resolved to get back into shape (a pear with rhombus accents). So I spent two days getting psyched and yesterday I went to the gym. First, I have to say in my defense that I am sleepwalking most mornings before 10am so while I thought I was packing a gym “outfit”, I was, in fact, packing a gym “misfit”....more
By Guest Blogger David Snively I’ve been training clients for more than 25 years now, mostly women, and I’ve heard my fair share of workout goals from the opposite sex. For the most part, they are body part related– the eternal quest for thinner thighs, flatter stomachs, and more toned arms, and that has continued till this day. I have learned to listen to their requests, sympathize with body image discontent, and do my best to deliver results. I combine my own agenda as a trainer with 25 years of experience and constant learning, &nbs...more
If you’re like me, then getting to the gym can be a real chore. Especially now that I’m blogging, I have come up with nearly every excuse in the book to avoid the gym. “I haven’t written a blog in a couple of days, so I want to write this morning. I have no time for the gym today!” Now I’m in pretty decent shape. I won’t lie. I’ve been active my entire life, from ballet as a little girl through to late teens, and then fitness after that. Being fit and eating healthy have always been a part of my life....more
I go to the gym between two and four days a week. It depends on my mood and what am I doing. Very few people go to gym because they truly enjoy and love to work out. OK, my husband does, but he’s the exception. The rest of us go to the gym because it is healthy, or we like to get out of the house and talk to the people, or we just want to escape from daily problems.
Okay. I am going to do it. I have thought about it all weekend and all last week, and I’ve been through the pros and cons over and over again. I’ve talked myself out of it and justified not doing it, but in the end…
I keep finding myself having rants on the situation I find myself in as I fight the uphill battle to keep active.
Why am I a fitness expert? Mostly because I proclaimed myself one. But, let’s just say I started out 25 years ago as an over zealous aerobics instructor and suddenly, two and a half decades have passed. I feel like I’m entitled. It’s as simple as that.
