The ripple effect

It has been a truly rough 9 months since they separated. Months filled with pain and heartache for a number of people. I often wonder if people realize the effects that a separation, and later a divorce have on a family. Outside of the core family. The ripples that splash through layers and layers, each one pushing further and further out causing new ripples on their own. We had a relationship with the SIL, or so I thought....more

Letting Go at Christmas (Hanukkah and Kwanzaa too along with the Solstice and Boxing Day)

When Grandparents Spoil Their Grandchildren

Everyone knows the job of grandparents is to spoil their grandchildren.  "Spoil-'em-and-send-'em-home" is often the attitude that young parents feel  about their once strict parents who have become grandparents.  But for the sanity of all involved, there has to be some sense of balance between the generations. ...more

What a year

I've just started thinking of this past year....I don't reminisce often but this seems to be the year that one thing after another happened.  Nothing bad but certaintly life changing or maybe I should say adjusting.  When I sold my house last year I was looking forward to a new place that when my grandchildren were there I would have lots of room. I have been a believer that things happen for a reason and when I was told my job was no longer there, not finding the home of my dreams seemed like the cliche 'a blessing in disguise'. ...more
