Gratitude, Silliness, and the Lessening of Obscene Hand Gestures

A few months ago I joined a gratitude group. Yes, I know it’s all a little woo woo, but for this recovering cynic, staying positive can be pretty hard work. So when I heard some friends were starting a group all about thankfulness, I was totally in....more

The Secret

I was tagged by a friend for a gratitude challenge on Facebook, and while I know I’m supposed to list out things I’m grateful for today, I don’t know how to limit myself to only a few. My life is so full, so silly wonderful, narrowing it down would be impossible....more

Want to Live Happier? Practice Gratitude

Dinners al-fresco on the back patio. Long walks after dinner. Flipping burgers on the grill in the pouring rain. Acupuncture treatment by a friend. My little sister’s encouraging words. Woohoo’s from Parker at gymnastics. Great books that make you think....more

Today's Gratitude List - Linkup No. 45

You're probably going to laugh, but at the top of today's gratitude list at this moment in time is the fact that the skin condition that's been bothering me for months now appears to be pretty much cured! Within a day or two of discontinuing use of the beeswax lip balm that I discovered was triggering an allergic reaction, the skin around my mouth cooperated by clearing up and ceasing to torment me. I can't tell you how nice it is to be back to my usual self again! ...more

26 Things You Learn at 26

As I prepare to say goodbye to good ole' twenty-six, and give a warm hello to twenty-seven, I began thinking about all that this last year has taught me.Twenty-six was full of trials and tribulations, excitment and opportunity, and overall I grew leaps and bounds. I'm grateful for the ever-nearing opportunity I'll have to see my family and some old friends when I visit Victoria in October - now that September is practically here, it seems like my trip is that much closer, and I'm getting more and more excited about it! Hope you'll join me in this week's Gratitude Linkup! ...more

Today's Gratitude List - Linkup No. 43

It's been a fairly quiet week for me. Peter and I have put ourselves on a rather strict budget for the next while, and haven't really been going out much (apart from our weekly trivia evening) or doing anything particularly exciting... so right now my gratitude is pretty much focused on my home and all the things in it. Hope you'll join me in this week's Gratitude Linkup! ...more

Happiness Depends on Perception

Even on bleak days, there are certain facts that I stand on. I am alive, healthy, not living on the street but in a large old, quirky house, with acres of gardens, trees and meadows. I am still married after almost 35 years with 9 healthy, successful adult kids and 5 grandkids.  I am loved by my family and God, even if I drive them crazy with my eccentricity. I have a computer, two hands with all my fingers to type...more

Today's Gratitude List - Linkup No. 42

This has been quite a week, hasn't it? Though my own personal corner of the world is fine at the moment, it sure does seem as though the news has been exceptionally full of sadness and strife over the past little while. Perhaps that's all the more reason to take a few minutes to stop and focus on gratitude... even, in some cases, for the blessings that come in spite of the bad. ...more
