Got Guilt?

According to Wikipedia, guilt is when a person believes (accurately or not) that she has violated a moral standard, and bears significant responsibility for that violation. It can lead to feelings of inferiority, inadequacy, hopelessness, and martyrdom. ...more

Unwanted Thoughts

More and more is being learned about autism. There are so many different theories. Different people have different ideas as to what's the best thing to do about reducing risks and treating those already affected. Sometimes these are based on falsified data (i.e. coming from Andrew Wakefield's study). Other times, the studies are valid, but inconclusive. Even when there are some clear results to base theories on, people can't seem to agree. Sometimes these make sense....more

Breastfeeding, SIDS & Guilt - At what cost? Many parents are surprised to learn that not breastfeeding has been linked with increased rates of SIDS.  Despite it's importance, it is often never mentioned at antenatal classes or by Health Professionals; so one day I decided to ask one why. ...more

No more holiday guilt! Simplifying the Silly Season.

One harried late-October evening, I rushed through a store’s costume section in a frenzy of last-minute preparations. To my horror, the reds and greens of Christmas cards and wrapping paper beckoned from a nearby aisle. “Oh, spare me,” I said aloud. “I haven’t finished feeling guilty about Halloween yet.”...more

Unhappy Marriage...Time to Renegotiate

Sometimes "happily ever after" becomes a husband who enjoys untold amounts of free time and a wife left to clean up the mess. We can ask politely or we can scream over a week or 8 years, but it doesn't seem to change anything for more than a few days. How did we get here? My Story: No one ever thought I was getting married. I needed too much freedom. I was by all accounts selfish and I had a nasty little habit of stringing guys along. Who knew I'd make a GREAT wife! ...more

Date Night Anxiety

Hmmm.  I’m about to discuss something controversial.  Every mom blogger knows that the most controversial thing you can write about is anything having to do with your husband. Well, I am going to venture a guess that I am not alone in date-night-related-anxiety. Usually, when date night is planned, it is in response to an over-stressed schedule and the recognition that we must remember we love our spouse and need to give them attention too. So, the date night is put on The Calendar. Then, my worrying begins.  I cannot help it.  I know it i...more

Is my title "Mom" or is it "Selfish, Guilt-Ridden Crab?"

I watched a movie today called Motherhood.  Wow!  I’m not in New York City as Uma Thurman’s character was set, but I sure do understand how she feels.  She’s got so many things on her list that needs to be done that day and the movie takes you through her pressure of accomplishing those items to be checked off.  In the meantime, there’s just one thing she wants to do for herself that she continues to try to get to, but she just can’t seem to get the cooperation from her husband, the support from her friends, or the quiet time to let her mind become removed from the ...more
