Simple Beautiful Haircut

This past Saturday was a busy one as usual.  I wanted to share with you a simple yet drastic haircut that I did. My cute client that is a new mom before:  (excuse my messy counter)  ...more

Cuttin' Ma Herr

So I just went cri-zazy and cut off all my hair this myself. And it turned out awesome, thank goodness! Some of us adjust to the throes of midlife by working out. Others eat. Some take art classes, get a lover, buy a new car. I just got fed up and chopped off all my hair because of this conversation:Me: "Hey honey, I think I'm going to call Kelly and see if she can work me in for a hair cut today."Him: "Really? How much did you spend at the grocery store yesterday?"...more
I'm not brave enough to cut my own hair but will color it to save money. I bet it looks rockin'!more

It's a hairy situation.

I've been lying to you all.  I've shamelessly misrepresented myself. Last week, there was a mix-up and I missed an appointment to get my bangs trimmed (that is my fringe for OG English speakers).  I've needed a bang trim since before I went to NYC in fact, and instead of drawing myself as I actually look, I have continued to draw myself with cute short bangs. I'm sorry.  But there is a reason....more

an attempt to change myself instead of my perception

I received ( in my eyes) the most hideous hair cut today. It turned out nothing close to what I had imagined. Did I speak up? Did I tell my hairdresser otherwise? Of course not. Never do. Thus, leaving me with something I never wanted. Because I can't speak up. ( only in here) The hair cut was first on the list. Next is some snake bites. I've already started saving up for my next tattoo. I've died the hair. I've started smoking. I quit smoking. I started and I quit again. ...more

Embracing Change

My husband and I took our son for his first official haircut when he was 15 months old. The trauma of the event was not significant, but the energy exchange during the event was decidedly intense. My son went from sitting on my lap and enjoying the process while my husband entertained him to the opposite end of the spectrum, screaming and struggling to be let down....more

Donating My Hair: What Have I Done?

I’m an expert at going against the flow. I will not be one of them. Every other girl at my high school has long, straightened hair. When they walk by, you can smell the crispy, burnt ends. Sort of like a campfire. Not really. Campfires smell good. ...more

Cut It Out: Keeping Your Hair Young

I seem to be going on and on about hair, but it is such an important aspect of our appearance and, I think, a reflection of how we feel. So, here are just a few more tips and comments about hair that I think are important in the grand scheme of keeping our hair – and ourselves – looking young. 1.No razor cut around the ears, no ears cut out period. We need hair around the face to soften our overall appearance. The hair around the face should also be feathered or ‘wispy’ and uneven, rather than hacked off in a straight line....more

From Hair to Eternity

My blog, "24 In My Mind", often provides beauty tips for the over-40 woman -things we can do (or not do) to look younger. It’s true, looks aren’t everything. You do need to be beautiful on the inside, too. But, there is a body-mind connection - how you look impacts how you feel - and having 'good hair' is one of the best ways to boost that youthful feeling. Here are some of my tips for 'young' hair: 1. Never let anyone over 30 cut your hair. Ok, now, before I get really nasty emails from hairstylists over 30, let me re-phrase......more

No Young Hair Here

My blog (24 In My Mind)  is about how the over-40 woman can still remain 'youthful' looking, and one of the things I talk alot about is getting the right haircut, a 'young' (with limits, of course) hairstyle.  I offer some rules for signs that a hair salon is NOT one where you will get a 'young' hairstyle. Here are those signs: 1. The name of the salon has the word “Beauty” in it.  Bad sign.  (One-word name salons are typically your best bet, followed by salons named for a guy.)   2....more
