Eating Healthy With A Busy Schedule

So we’re all busy right? Running to and from places. To Starbucks, to the office, to visit an elderly grandparent, to the gym, to an extra-curricular activity, a meeting. Running running running. And yet, I always roll my eyes at those skinny girls who say, “I just don’t have time to eat!” Yah, WHATEVER! Rome could be burning, and there I am, chompin’ away. In fact, I can count on one hand the number of meals I’ve missed in my ENTIRE lifetime. If you ask my husband, he’ll attest to it! No joke. I NEVER miss a meal. ...more

Summary of the 5 days vegan challenge

The 5 days vegan challenge was a great success, despite Marty waking up fancying milk, cheese, bacon and steaks every morning!  I had a headache the first day, but the following four days I felt alive, pain free, energetic and full of vitality.  I didn’t get that awful afternoon tiredness that I am plagued with, I had no aches and pains, and no headaches.  I’d say on average I usually spend 3 out of every 7 days with a headache, and once a week I get a migraine coming on (although I have learnt how to nip it in the bud before it develops).  And most days I am in some...more

How Organizing Can Help You Eat Well

by Sarah Welch and Alicia Rockmore Eating right isn’t easy, especially when you have kids who can mow down every candy, cupcake, pizza, and burger in site without skipping a beat. That’s not to say that you only feed your kids junk, but that you’ve probably been known to eat their leftover mac-n-cheese or the extra chicken nuggets more often than not. ...more

Back to School Meets Back to Breakfast

It's not that we don't eat breakfast over the summer, it's just that breakfast is a much more casual affair when we don't need the kids out the door at o'dark thirty every morning. It means that over summer vacation, the kids can make their own breakfasts, whenever they get hungry. And they can eat... well, not whatever they feel like having, but pretty much anything reasonable. I wave my hand and go back to my computer, and then around noon I fix them a reasonable lunch and call it good. This means my son eats cereal by the handful out the box, and my daughter sometimes eats nothing more than an apple. But it's summer, and that's okay. ...more

Leaf Lettuce Salad with Parmesan Crisps

Leaf Lettuce Salad with Parmesan Crisps is a wonderful restaurant in Houston that serves Parmesan crisps with their salads. I enjoy these crisp and salty treats so much that often I am tempted to ask them to bring me a bowl filled with them. My husband says that would not be appropriate, but when he is not looking, I sometimes am able to get the waiter to sneak me a few extras! ...more

The Perfect Weight or The Perfect Fit?

There is a stomach bug running rampant through my kids’ school, which of course means that it passed through our home as well. And what you may ask does this have to do with obtaining my perfect weight? It means that after it hit me, I was my perfect weight – those last five pounds were gone – just like magic, well, not quite, but close enough. ...more

Am I a Salt-aholic?
