Homework 2.0

Last week, a New York public school announced it would no longer require homework for students attending grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. Principal Jane Hsu stated "the negative effects of homework have been well established.  The school hopes that by eliminating homework, students will read more and spend quality time with their families....more

O Christmas Tree

My Christmas decorations are up, and by gum the I am ready to don my yuletide gay apparel and be jolly and whatnot. There are candy canes alight in my yard, lights strung over my garage, and snowflakes glowing upon the side of my house. The stockings are hung by the chimney with care, and there are at least three Baby Jesus figurines lolling cherubically in ceramic mangers throughout my home. The wee Jesus dolls are all strangely white looking for Middle Eastern Jewish babies, but there is only so much I can do people....more

My Son's Christmas Wish

I wish I could say my 10 year old son would like to donate any gifts he WOULD receive at Christmas to the less fortunate this holiday season. Sadly, this is not the case. Although his Christmas list is refreshingly short in length, it is long on the request. He would like a recliner.  And a plaid robe. Ummm, how about a pipe and slippers to go with, while we are at it?   Seriously....more

Until this year we used to be the house that had “The” Halloween party. Our friends came to our place. We made the food and drinks, had the house totally decked in spooky decor and we made sure everyone had roadies for trick or treating. It was one of our favorite events....more
